fluid coupling?

can someone tell me more? I am reading the FSM and how to remove engine in my runner! and what is fluid coupling?

REMOVE FAN WITH FLUID COUPLING AND FAN PULLEYS... ? hmm sorry if im a newb but i have to swap motors and no cash for mechanic

The fluid coupling is a fancy term for your fan clutch. It is the part that the fan bolts on to. It pulls air when your engine is hot and free spins when the engine is cool.

They are referring to the fan clutch. A torque converter on an automatic trans is also a fluid coupling, though you'll never see it called that.

Yeah, and we engineers say the same kind of thing when mechanics call a fluid coupling a clutch because the physics are completely different.

Ah, so that was a self-deprecating comment, not a snarky one.

One of my prof's told a story of being an expert witness in a court case where one of the lawyers was trying to discredit his statement that the instructions were correct (I think someone got hurt using a product incorrectly). Lawyer asked "what makes you qualified to write instructions?" and he responded "because I can read". I always liked that response.
