Flat towing with a 4Runner?
Hello, I am looking to get a Toyota Truck of some sorts in the spring, I was thinking 3rd gen 4Runner.
I do also have a Jeep YJ, I was thinking due to the 5000lb towing capacity I would be able to flat tow this on our off roading trips. I understand the Runners are great at off roading but I would not put my daily driver through the abuse I would put an 89 YJ through.
Any thoughts?

x2 lmao good for business
its possible but why..?
wouldnt it be just the same to drive the jeep to the trail? if you break it to the point where its not driveable, it wont be flat towable either.
i say get a mid 80's ford f250 and a trailer, they are really cheap.

My dad drives an 05 Tundra, one weekend we pulled my Jeep (without a working 4wd and bald tires) through the snow to get the tires changed and a safety, pulled it about 500 yards, then on the trip back into town after dropping the flatbed off again pulled a 4x4 Chevy out of the ditch.
I do not worry about Toyotas.
Have you guys towed anything 3000lbs with the 4Runner though? I have been told the concern is being pushed around.
I don't know if you have ever driven a 20 year old soft top jeep for 600kms non-stop but there are two issues there
1. The wind noise makes you want to freak out on something after about 80km/h
2. The gas mileage is about the same as towing it with another vehicle and you have a lot more storage space towing it, the 4.2L carb engine in the 89 YJ is like dumping fuel on the road as you drive
The plus for the Jeep aside from being cool is the torque, wow do they have torque and the body colour is tremclad black so I can patch up the holes really easily.

nice. being pushed is an issue you just have to be very concious. i've flat towed the multicolored truck with the blue truck
both 84's it wasnt a big deal, just dont ride peoples asses
plus the muticolored one is over 4k lbs. i'm sure the jeep will be easier.
if it has a locked rear thats a pita too, welded rear always wants to go straight so it hops around.
