I found an FJ in a salvage yard this weekend. I was wondering if the 4.0 in it was the same series engine as my 3.4 and would bolt in. I was also curious about swapping in the 6-speed and locking rear diff and maybe the wheels and stuff.

Any ideas?

 

Hey anythings possible, right? It's just a matter of how much money and or time do you want to throw at it.
It's not a direct bolt in, you'd need the FJ tranny. You'd also have to get the ECU and all that shtuff.
But hey if you just had a trail only rig to put it in it would be easier, but I wasn't sure if that was the case for you.

 

Well the reason the truck was totaled was it passenger side A pilliar was smashed back into the middle of the rear seats. If I wanted to do it I would buy the whole truck. Engine tranny ecu. mainly I was wondering how close those components are to the 4runner, like are the engines the same series or blocks and bolt into the same locations ect.....

 

No, the 4.0 is a 1grfe and the 3.4 is a 5vzfe. different engines, different computers, different transmissions.

Rear diff will fit with some grinding and drilling
