Cut it,chop it, save some moola

I did the air box mod where you allow more air to enter the box originally. But a month ago I did a 3 inch body lift and when throwing everything back together had a problem to deal with. The air tube to box alignment was all out of wack because I lifted the body. I had to hack my air box off to where I had the rim with the snaps still in tact. I basically gave myself more flow but still have to deal with modding my air tube. It just seems like a better idea to mod your air system for free than spend $150 to $200 on the same idea.

Does anyone have a link for ordering the Deckplates??

I can only find white 4" deckplates locally. It just seems it would be "so wrong" to put white deckplates on a black airbox.

OK, I am in the process of getting one of those FIPK for my truck too, but what I want to know is:

Is the air filter going to be open??

I do alot of water off-roading and go through a lot of dusty terrain so I don't want to risk anything from getting in my engine.

Either get your local boat shop to order you a black one, that's what I did, or buy a can of that new paint that is supposed to go on plastic real well and paint the white one black. I think Jason B painted his black if I'm not mistaken.

Almost any online boat supply outfit will sell black deckplates.

To me, the most important thing to remember when making a decision like you are making is that the FIPK is a dirty intake system. Sure it flows freely but it allows a fair amount of fine dirt and dust particles in with the air, no matter how well you service it. Don't get me wrong, I use the FIPK, but that's the bottom line ... it's dirty.

What do you guys suggest?

just the facts baby--

Jasper - just saw your old thread, has your mileage picked up? I recently plugged up my deckplate for something and noticed the mileage had gone down a good amount!

I've install the K&N FIPK and I have a supercharger and it seem to loose power, but is it's louder with intake. I'm going to place back my stock intake with a K&N drop in filter and cut out the box. Take a look at this website:
http://www.gadgetonline.com/airinduction.htm
Also I'm going to do the Free FMU.

Autozone carries them but you may have to order it.

Whoa my bad bro!! I just got excited cause I just did the mod yesterday!!

But I think cutting the air box or drilling holes will do pretty damn good then drop in the K&N filter.....but the only thing is that it will probaly be a little louder.

Probably not too bad on noise...
The worst noise comes when you do the ISR mod.....Very Loud!

Cut it! I got a spare airbox and I cut it completely, leaving only the mounts in place. The "deep throaty intake sound" that FIPK promises is there and its free. It's also free airflow increase. Now, if only my engine could take some advantage of it, which I doubt, haha

Just FYI - if you attempt to do this just know that it's different on the Tacomas.
