Geez, finally, it has happened. I was able to get my new muffler installed today. I have a 2.7 4 cylinder with a K&N drop in, and did research on mufflers.

I replaced my Flowmaster Delta Series 40 with a Dynomax 2.25 in/out.

Apparently, I did not do enough research before installing it. With the Flowmaster, the rumble and drone at 2200 rpm's was brutal to the ears. I also lost a bit of bottom end, I guess due in part to the free flow of the Flowmaster.

Alas, the low-end pull is back, and much quieter. The shop in El Cajon (Valley Muffler) said replace the muffler, but do not replace the OEM pipe. I went with his recommendation and all is well. The cost, with a chrome tip, was $147.50.

I am stoked.

why not replace the oem pipe? a cat back system would probably have been best....

 

If it's still good and not rusty, I see no reason to change the pipe.

 

I 've a 2.7 cylinder and want to change the muffler too. Been trying to do research, but can't find much on the 2.7. I've narrowed it down to 3 though...Magnaflow 14", Vortex, or Dynomax. How do you like yours? How much did you pay for the muffler? Sound?

 

I am happy with the sound. It is definitely louder than stock, but not by much. I went with the Dynomax (part #17747) because it is supposedly the quietest performance muffler for my application, according to Valley Muffler in El Cajon. I dealt with Raymond, he is cool.

I inquired about replacing the entire pipe, and Raymond said that he could not do a better job than my OEM. Since it is mandrel bent and only a year old, his recommendation was to leave it alone for now.

I did notice some increase in bottom end power, which I lost after the Flowmaster was installed.

The price was $147.50 w/chrome tip.
