A few questions about Flowmaster

Im going to install a Flowmaster in the next comming weeks. Just wanted to get some opinons before getting it welded on there...

1) I know the 50 series is quiter, but, is the 40 series TOO loud for a 3rd Gen V6? I like a more deep throaty sound more than a lound thunder.

2) I have to get a center inlet, offset outlet, and 2 1/4 width/Diameter, correct? I think im going to use my existing stock exhaust pipes...

3)What are the prices for new pipes?

When I had my 2nd gen I put the 40 series in. ( I used to Live In Santa Cruz) A Place in Watsonville, I forgot the name of it now, but I probably still have the receipt - its just in a warehouse type building in an industrial street/area. Cost $210 for muffler, pipes and work w/ tip. Not bad at all.

I liked the 40 series, you could really make it hold its tone in second, and Idled very deep sounding. Yeah , its a bit louder - but then again, I like it loud....people always said it sounded bad ass.

Probably doesn't help you too much - but I really just posted to say, nice name hehe. Great minds think alike...

I have a flowmaster 40 series on my 3rd gen and really like the sound. Its nice and throaty at idle and when you gas it, you get a nice deep tone. I say for a yota its loud, but I too like loud.

I wouldn't say it was all that loud and I'm an "Old fart"

Not much louder than the Super Turbo Dynamax. It's quiet at freeway speeds

I heard a Flowmaster 40 in person for the first time this past Sunday... A VERY nice tone. It's not loud in the sense of being obnoxious, it's loud in the sense of "damn that sounds nice - no way that's a Toyota!".

Thanks for the replies guys!! I appreciate it!

Hey SD4Runner... You know whats funny? I grew up in San Diego

Can you remember the place that you got yours put on at? Was it a muffler shop or what? I like the idea of getting a whole new system on more than just cutting and welding.

Especially for $210... thats a deal.. How long ago was this?

Get back to me!

I got a Flowamaster 40 series with new 2.25" pipes from the cat back last week. I only spent 160.00 I got it in Vista at Richards performance muffler. Granted I have a 4cyl 1st gen, but it sounds deep, I imagine the extra air the v6 pushes would make it a little louder....but definitely not overbearing.

Oh yeah and just so you know I had a flowmaster Delta 50 (The delta series is even quieter) on a dodge dakota 5.2 V8....It was too quiet. I felt like I should have gotten a 40. Again...I like it loud.

Tomorrow I'll be getting a Flowmaster 50 installed, getting my exaust system moved up a few inches, and all new tail pipe. Since it's a V6, I'm getting 2.5 in and 2.5 out, total cost will be $250..

BTW I finally cut the hole through my bumper, so now there will be no way my pipe will get crushed!

40 series

hey
i have a 98 3.4 liter v6 with the 40 series and it gets loud when you stomp it but if you are just cruising its not to bad. the best sound comes out at around 2000 rpm's. i have people ask me all the time if it was a v8 in it because its an import that doesnt sound like a bee in a tin can. hope that helped.

I got my flowmaster off ebay for $60 then had it put on with new 2.5" pipe cat back for around $100 less then a year ago. I think the sellers name was Jon3x.

why does almost everyone get a 40 or 50 series when they designed the 60 series for 4 and 6 cylinders..?

I looked for the receipt can't find the name it was about 2 years ago - it was strictly a muffler shop - room for 1 car maybe two in the garage, aluminium industrial building on the right when travelling south on some road in watsonville. Lol, that's all I know man. Sorry.

just going by what they put on their web site, it'd be nice if someone could post what it sounds like on the exhaust page.

I got my 50 series installed last friday, it's been a week now and I like it!

As for noise level it is much higher, but at highway speed it's not bad. I'll post some photo's when I get a chance....

I only get compliments on it. I'll email you a video on Monday that shows it off before I put the headers on.

So those who installed the 40-series....

Was it the DELTA FLOW version or just the regular 40-Series?

Im thinking Im going to go for the Delta Flow, 40-series now...Im thinking with the deckplate mod installed, that will add quite considerably to the tone and loudness.
