I passed smog barely, I was at the max for NOx at 15 Mph. To pass, I had to put my wife's stock rims on the rear. This is going to be a pain for future smog checks, but at least I am good for the next 2 years!!!

(_)3 Cheers!!

a pass is all that matters, how often do you have to get tested

The Smog Inspection measures emissions and has to be done every 2 years in California.

You still have issues, tire size shouldn't matter that much. I pass smog every time running 35's, yes I'm regeared, but before then I had larger tires on stock gears and it still passed.

That's what I was thinking as well......the tire size band-aid just allowed you to squeak under the bar.

I had high NOx and a new pre-cat o2 sensor was the fix. This was on my '97 runner with stock gears and 285's. As others mentioned, tire size should not be an issue.

Pretty sure the same thing happened on my '97 T100 (35's), but that was a while ago so I can't quite remember the details.

The o2 sensors just seem to wear out after a while and then they tend to run lean.

just try to seafoam. I have used it a lot, it works good on cleaning. I am just interested in how it does with emissions.

AHHHHH! i also failed my smog check ! plz help!

failed 15mph test NO (PPM)- i failed that, everything else passed
pass 25mph test

i have stock everything except for a 2" lift w/ 33's on. i have tried 3 times each mech saying different things that it might be. 1." u have to get a new egr valve" which i dont think i even have, 2. "replace ur tires with stock", 3. "get a new cat". man i dont know what to do .

so from reading the thread i think i should clean the maf and do a seafoam thing?

My experience with these engines has been that high NO is a result of running lean (too hot) and it is caused by the forward oxygen sensor going bad. I'll betcha a new sensor is the fix. Especially if you're anywhere near the 100-120k mark.

Clean the heck out of your MAF with brake cleaner, pull the neg batt terminal and have it retested at a shop.

Sounds very lean right now (ie the problem you were having should now be alot easier to track down because it is so far out of spec). You can replace your A/F sensor, but I'd have toyota hook it up to their diagnostic and look at all the sensors before you just start playing parts replacement.

my friend recommended premium gas so i think that contributed to my high NOx. but yea truck was hot an the oil was changed recently.

i think i might have to go to the mech for this cuz its way outta whack.

ok ... lets get chevron 87 in the tank(run at least 3 tanks), and stock sized tries on the truck. These two things will make it pass( you only need to find 2 tires to change out the rear.)
