I think this is a law that is relegated to the states.

State vs. Gov...who cares?

Who cares? It's factory installed...if it was illegal then why would Toyota install it in an 88 4Runner? I looked at the FCC site and it said that if they complied with FCC rules...then radar detectors are legal.....www.fcc.gov

wait a minute, you guys are discussing the legality of a radar detector in a 1988 vehicle? maybe it wasnt illegal to have one in 1988, and toyota offered as an option...just a thought... but laws change...

yeah but the law shouldn't make stuff illegal in a vehicle that was put there by the makers, that would make extra effort for the person who owns the vehicle to remove what they didn't put there in the first place. Which is probably why in Hawaii if it's stock it's legal but if not then it's illegal (example HID looking blue tinted headlights, or any other light for that matter)
