I've just spend the last 5 hrs or so searching and reading old threads trying to find options for either a larger fuel tank or an auxiliary fuel tank for my 2000 Taco. So far i've only come up with these two options.

and neither of them seem to have any bolt on options. There was some mention in past threads about a tank that fits above the spare tire but no suppliers were mentioned.

Does anybody make either a larger replacement tank for the taco, or an auxiliary tank that can be added with minimal fuss?

Isuzu Trooper or Rodeo gas tank you can use. The easiest way is to get the whole tank with the pump assembly in it. Use that pump to transfer the fuel into the Toyota tank. That is the easiest. A guy here with a 4Runner did it. Made his own skid plate for it too.

Do you really need the aux tank? (Serious question, not to be smart). Couple of jerry cans in the truck bed not work?

 

I have the nwmp gravity feed tank on my 4runner who ever had installed did not hook it up right.
it was a pain to drop and fix a leak and the lines running into it but it works now and is nice when gas prices drop I fill it up.

but 600$ for 10 more gallons of gas is kind of pricey I would go the junk yard gas tank route.

 

Well, a serious question deserves a serious answer...so here i go. This isn't really about NEEDS, it is about WANTS. I don't really need an aux tank, but then again, I don't really need a TRD edition 4x4 Taco. I don't drive my truck daily, but I often get fed up with having to fill up every 270-300 miles. Geeze, I almost get that range with my motorcycle (240 miles on a good day with a 5.5gal tank). I would be satisfied with 350-400 miles per tank (round trip to some of my popular destinations) so I don't need the extra 15 gal or so of an aux tank, but it seems more doable than finding a bigger primary tank.

I've thought of removing my current tank and getting it extended but not sure anybody would want to cut into that thing for fear of or worse.

I don't like the idea of jerry cans as I have a camper shell on my taco and often sleep back there during track days or when camping. Fuel and sleeping quarters don't mix. Plus, there is the hassle of transfering the fuel into the main tank..not very convenient.. and that is really what this is about, convenience.

Maybe a junkyard tank will work but I'm not sure I want to deal with the mounting hassle. I like fabricating and modifying my bikes, but not my truck. The search continues.
