Uh :wtf: , do you know anything about your rig? Have you ever looked under your front end? A explorer doesnt have a solid front axle:rolleyes:, it has a TTB

I just bought a new 02 4Runner and never was it a choice in my books that I will go near a ford dealer. I also owned a 95 Tacoma. I owned the Tacoma for 5 years, bought it at $17k with 39K milesand sold it last January for $10,500 with 99k miles. Now that my friend is an excellent resale value for a Toyota. When I decide to sell my 4runner instead of trading it in, I will also get a better resell value than a ford explorer.

The answer is simple.
Every test which includes a Ford, the Ford almost always comes in last. Ever test including a Toyota, the Toyota always comes in first.
I've had a lot of Ford including two Broncos. But, the Toyota is just a better off-road vehiclle.

My response is going to be slightly different from everyone elses. When my wife and i started dating in Sept 2001, she had a 1997 Explorer Eddie Bauer. I was in the market and almost bought a 2001 Explorer Sport, but I found out that it had a theft recovery title. I then found my 4Runner.
From Dec 2001 to May 2002 we both had 1997 SUV's. During that time I had replaced/fixed the Explorers: O2 sensors, air-ride, exhaust shields rattle, squeeky doors, squeeky sunroof, squeeky antenna, and a coolant leak. The truck then went into ford for a throttle body plate recall. On my 4Runner, i fixed: NOTHING.
I will admit that the explorer had more luxury options: leather, climate control, driver and passenger power seats, fuel economy guage, compass, outside temp guage, and a bunch of crap.. But when we got married one of them had to go, and it was the Explorer!!
I had a 1994 Ranger 4X4 before my 4Runner, the TTB are nothing special. My 4Runner does a lot better off road than my Ranger did.

That is some good info SLC. As you say, there are alot of repairs when you get a Ford. With the 4Runner, none! I am glad that you made this point, because it shows that the 4Runner is a great vehicle! Nice...thanks! :fireman:

My fiencee was driving 98 4runner. had a serious offset accident hitting Ford truck (maybe ranger) on the opposite lane
Both drivers were ok! but both cars were towed. Then...
4runner was fixed and now her brother is driving it without any problem.
But the ford was totalled......

In 1997 my 4Runner was hit in the rear by a Ford F-350. caused $7000 damaged to my truck. It was repaired by a dealer and I have never had a problem with it since, not even a leak. Toyotas are built to last even when wrecked.

F***in Outrageous Ripeoff Deal
Found On Russian Dump
ford sucks basically. toyota's last much longer and are much more reliable. also tougher
... so much for "built ford tough" id like to see pictures of ford's doing what some of the people on here have pictures of. they'd be dead.......
also its not smart to ask which is better ford or toyota on a toyota forum.... if you ask the same question on a ford forum, you'll hear that fords are better.... do they even have ford offroading forums???

First off I'm going to defend the last remark. vBulletin is the message board that is used. I could name off several sites that use it, mp3car.com, thetechzone.com (i think), etc. its a common board that is used.
Secondly, Fixed or repaired daily, yeah I can vouche for that. I drive a 1991 ford mustang at the moment untill I get my truck which will be around the last couple days of this month (dad gets there that week doesn't drive it here till the weekend). Anywho I've had to replace maf sensors, O2 sensor, had a stripped headbolt, for some odd reason my brake started to wear wrong and started to eat into my rotor, exhaust leak somewhere around the header, etc... Now I can understand the O2 sensor and the maf sensor even the rotor, the headbolt I have no clue. After all the stuff I have replaced right now the check engine light comes on and will stay on for a week or two then not come on for a week, then it will go on and off for a week. Its been doing that since I got the car but started to more since feb. Truthfully I just don't care about the d**n thing anymore. I truthfully count the days till get the truck. It has been well taken care of and has only 130,000 miles on it. My Ford POS has 89,000 on it. Difference- one is in great condition and was well taken care of, The other I took good care of, changed the oil right before 3000 miles, fuel injector cleaner every 4,000, air filter same time as oil, etc... but it runs like s**t.

Hey retardriot 427. I saw this straight axle conversion done on this guy's explorer (think it's around your model year), and man, it's something he will never/ever do again. He later sold the vehicle & bought a Toyota.
