Excel vs K&N

I just got a Excel drop in filter for my 3.4 off ebay for $40 shipped to my house, it looks exactly the same as a K&N but its blue. I used the K&N filter oil and dropped it in now ive noticed that my milliage is not as good as it was, I was attributing it to the colder weather. Do you guys think that there is a difference between the 2 filters, I think its exactly the same for half the price but could I be wrong.

Haven't even heard of Excel. For an important part like an air filter, I'd be weary of any knock-off no-name brand filter. Especially ones ripped off of an already crappy filter like K&N. Go with an OEM filter.

I hope it wasn't a regular air filter that you sprayed with K&N recharge oil

As long as it was a new, most of the reuseable type air filters come pre-oiled. Over-oiling the element could restrict air flow and screw up your MAF sensor

That is very possible, it didnt appear to be preoiled .

You really think they do more harm than good, you got me thinking now, however the truck is running awesome throttle is very responsive the motor just purrs but its going through a lot of fuel lately and as I said i figured that was because of the cold weather, Im losing about 60-70 kilometers a tank, even though gas prices are low it still sucks having to fill up more often than not.
