For a gun safe in the vehicle, if I had a choice (gun jealous canuck) I would get one that mounts to the floor so it is more secure. I see why you would want the glove box, but if it isnt a sealed unit then it is only as strong as the surrounding plastic and dash. There really isnt much room under the driver or passenger seat so what I would try is to see if you had enough room in the centre console to slide in and mount a locked safe to the actual floor.

Call me a risk taker but I used to keep my pistol under the floor mats. But then again my neighborhood isn't too too bad.

...and just to feed the fire I thought I'd include a quote from Ted Nugent, "the second amendment is my concealed weapons permit!"

I think that tuffy box would be a great idea, even if its kinda costly. I would be interested in one. put a cup holder on one of those and put some stock looking cloth on one- it would be a winner. Not only thieves, but just being safe with your valuables. a key would be a pain, maybe a code, quick access.

if you have a sunroof you could make a mountable turret of some sort, just in case.

nah, i like guns. i personally dont see a need to carry one, but if i lived in a place where my life was in danger and was allowed to, than f*in 'eh i would man. your situation is understandable now that it has been explained. i even own a t-shirt company called bite the bullet/BTB that features mostly graphics with guns in them. and, i plan on installing a gun rack (rifle type) to carry my fly rods when i wheel in to one of my fishin holes.

with a body lift, you could fully make a spot to put a safe that would not be visable or noticable in your floor or even the tranny tunnel for your stash or gun.

To everyone, if you plan on ever leaving a firearm in the vehicle, GET A SAFE! I am in L.E. and live in a very safe town of about 27,000 people. We've had 12-15 handguns stolen in recent months during vehicle break-ins. The worst part is the every one was in the driveway. +1 on the sunroof turret idea

Ya know, I have been thinking about this as well. I have mine on me 95% of the time and some days i have to go to the bank so I end up stuffing it under the seat from the back. I think i might have to make something so I can mount it on the back wall of the cab. I have a reg cab so I'm quite limited.

Anyway, just curious...What do you carry? I have a Baby Eagle...(.40) Someday I'll have an Eagle but not for an everyday carry around (just a bit bulky). I'm also looking into getting a .410 pistol I think that would be fun!!!
I'm getting my girl a .380 later this spring, I see them on sale quite a bit.

I carry a Glock 19, gen 2.

I don't know why anyone would need to leave a gun in the car if it was in their driveway (maybe in a bug out bag?). I'd bring it inside if I was at home. I don't even like leaving it in the car when I'm out unless I have to.

And yes...+1 on the gun turret.

I work on Marine Corp Base Camp Pendleton, I had a long night and was a little early to work, folded down the seats in the runner and started to pass out when I hear a crap load of automatic weapons going off...

My local 4wheel drive place has a safe for sale could mount upright in a yoda. Has a thumb print recognition deal as well as a key if the recognition fails for some reason.
Also to the guy that quoted "the nugge" all hail King Ted.

In a toyota [or most any vehicle built these days] the glove box is not very secure at all the hinge pins are friction or clip in plastic and easily popped or the latch is cheap plastic. So mounting a gun safe here is at best just an annoyance to the thief or lip service to a secured weapon law.
If you have the space [ie. no heater mounted in it] the console would be the best choice any metal/welding shop worth it's MIG should be able to fab up a custom box to fit inside the lower console well that could be bolted to the vehicle using the box mounting bolts and would be completely secure possibly even fire-proof. And of course also very stealthy. Probably very cheaply too...
