engine surge

so i had a rough idle and the engine would surge forward during acceleration on my 92 v6 4runner ... took it to toyota and they replaced the O2 sensor, cleaned out carbon, injectors, and the throttle body... so the car worked fine until i drove up my street and it started surging again, did all day yesterday and then the engine wouldnt run smoothly at all during any acceleration, it vibrated the whole time... has anyone had any similar problem to this??

I'd check all vacuum lines and the EGR valve.

I think EGR would be a good guess in this case.

I'd back up to basics. Do a compression check. That motor is known to have head gasket problems. Even if the head gasket was replaced I'd start here.
Did this problem just start or were you working on the runner?

few weeks ago my engine light came on, brought it in and they told me there was a crack in my intake hose and my O2 sensor needed to be replaced...so a day or two later it started this surging and i replaced my intake and it still happened a little. light came on a few days ago so i took it in and they replaced the O2 sensor, "cleaned" injectors, carbon, and the throttle body. the symptom disappeared for about 15 mins then happened again and has gotten worse the past day... after spending $600 on that other crap

i have the same problem right now, but I think the culprit is my fuel filter. My idle is low, and the engine lacks until about 3500 rpm, then surges. I have a 93 4 cyl with a 5 spd. I'm going to change the filter and post my results.

it's a real pain when trying to get onto the freeway, when the revs are below 3500, it's so slow, it took literally over 30 sec to get up to highway speed today.

the problem started the exact day I filled up on crappy Indian reservation gas. please pay the extra 5 cents a gallon!

Hi...i have the same problem with the surges...I have and 89 pickup 22RE ...and recently mines been doing the same once in a while and i have been getting poor fuel mileage...so i replaced my fuel filter and then cleaned my injectors with some kleen-flo and so far even tho its only been i day i have noticed a big differnce in power and my truck hasn't surged....so try that and if it is still doing the same then check your O2 sensor if not already replaced and do both of them...so good luck and keep me posted
