Tranny fluid - where'd it all go ???
So I've been planning to change the tranny fluid in my 4th Gen for the last month or so. I'm at 16k now, and would like to keep my transmission nice and healthy.
Doing a bit of light reading through my FSMs, I found that 11+ quarts of the tranny fluid is required for a dry fill of the transmission, but only 3+ quarts are required for a "drain and refill". So where does that 8 or so quarts of tranny fluid run off to after you do a dry fill ?
Yes, I know, I have a tranny cooler, but I can't believe that it would suck up the 8 quarts of fluid. Any other ideas where it's running off to ? Any suggestions as to how I can get more of the old fluid out of the tranny than simply 3 quarts ?
Thanks for all the help !

A flush will remove all the fluid. It will cost you about $100, or you can flush it yourself via the cooler lines.
The "extra" fluid is in the VB's, and all associated lines/parts of the auto trans - which is pretty big.

Most of it resides in the torque converter. The there are a lot of smaller places for fluid to pool up and not drain. If you were to take the tranny apart, you'd be surprised where you find fluid hiding.

Yeesh ! A tranny flush is the only way to get that old fluid out ! Guess I'll be waiting until 20k+ miles before getting my tranny flushed, then.
Thanks for the help !
