Great work! I love this, I've also seen a write up on doing it on a second gen, which is apparently much more involved with the cutting of the volvo shroud. Any negative side effects or problems yet??

 

I've been reading this thread and others and on the 2 speed Taurus fan I assume you hook the controller up to the higher speed wire?

 

I did, since the DCC controller will automatically reduce the speed when needed. With a on-off-on switch I hooked up the low speed wire to a completely seperate back-up system that can only be switched on if the DCC controller is switched off. And the middle "off" the fan gets no power at all for water crossings.

 

Sounds like a great idea...can you explain how you wired it up to switch on/off w/ the low speed side. I'm electrically challenged but I can follow instructions and I have some intuition, but it is not my forte'.

Thanks Dale. I got my electric fan...jsut gotta get my dcc controller...since I'm tubing out the front end...might as well put in the electric fan during the process.

 

Hey, I bought one of these and I want to run the wiring for the AC and IGN. Where is it that you guys have spliced into these leads? My Chilton Manual is not really helping me out. Thanks guys.

 

There is only one wire that runs to the AC compressor, that's the one. The IGN is just any wire that is only hot when the ignition is turned on. I'm trying to remember what I used....one place you could use is the windshield wiper motor, it's switched. There's a lot of things under the dash that are switched. I tapped into the main IGN wire for a lot of stuff (electrical diagrams are sweet to have), just be sure and put a fuse close to where you tap in if you tap a big wire with a little wire.

 

thanks a lot Dale, that makes me more comfortable with the AC lead. IGN should be no big deal.

 

S what is the verdict? Does changing to an electric fan have any advantages or disadvantages? Do you notice power gains? Increased fuel mileage? Overheating?

 

I think my fan controller broke It's been a while since I put the stock fan back on but my Delta Current controller seems to have went south on me. Direct connection to the fan works fine but the fan never cuts on with the controller hooked up. The controller is solid state right? I didn't fasten it down all the way inside the engine compartment so it could have gotten knocked around for the week or so I had it installed. But, I thought that it would be safe being solid state... The mod was pretty cool when it worked, are there any experts that can give me some tips on how to trouble shoot the Delta controller?

I just wanted to follow up with my controller problem after resolving the issue. Apparently there are some lock nuts on the terminals for the hookups and they came loose on my unit. Brian tightened them up for me and now the controller works like champ again.
