Elbow Intake mod (alternative to the deckplate)

The only issue is that if you do come across a situation where you want to cover up the big hole in the airbox quickly (such as when travelling offroad), then it ain't very easy. I've had mine out for almost 2 years now, but I've also done pretty much 100% road driving since then. If you're never going to have a situation where you need to cover it up, then just cut a big old hole like Gadget did a few years back and get all the airflow your engine can handle.
......or just pull out the elbow like this thread suggests.

wow my little post resurrected this thread!! any how i think i will do the deckplate mod instead.. oh and at the time of the pics i had an original airfilter and stock air box, it got soaked.. nothing a couple of quick rpm bursts couldnt dry up..

Im new at all this and I do appreciate all the help and answers to all of my questions. I think I will just go with an aftermarket open element air intake. I will be driving offroad but it will be very little offroad with no water. I will keep my oem air box and do the mods to it while its off and take my time. If I find that I actually need it I will throw it back on. Thanks again guys and I hope there are no hard feelings! I am new here and I like it so I wanna keep everybody in my good graces. Just a little advice about the open air intake... Don't skimp on that. Your filtration system is vital. A cheap filter can cause a lot of problems. Good luck.

Also keep in mind that open element filters get exposed to alot of mud, dust and dirt when going offroad as opposed to the stock setup or a closed deckplate. Just something else to think about anyway.
