What a differnce new Bilsteins make! 99'runner

Just thought I'd post this for anyone still running their stockers.

I just installed 4 new bilsteins and holy cow!...........I'ts amazing what junk you can get used to after a while!
My old shocks and struts were causing my anti lock brakes to kick in while stopping short in the snow and dirt not to mention the rear of the truck jumping around and tossing the goods around in the back.

Just took my rig out for a trail ride and the truck is glued to the trail and it handles washboard with ease and simply smooth offroad!

I also have airlifts, 4 inch spacers, energy bushings and a 1 inch dayster front lift.
I even got back at least 1/2 inch of lift in the front simply because the old shock lower bushings collasped over time. Good stuff.

My last Tip........If your gonna do a lift up front.......change your struts!!!!!
Trust me!!! it's not worth the time to re-install the old junk not to mention compressing the nasty springs!!! hee hee!

It's interesting you mentioned your ABS kicking in. Mine has started doing that too. Maybe I can convince the wife for "safety's sake"

My front struts were shot and loose to boot.
So...........when stopping on snow and dirt the antilock would kick in.

I am used to my crappy ride as well, 137k and going. My truck dances all over the place on washboard roads past 30mph, it also kicks abs in a lot stopping on snow/ice.

Hey..you guys with over 100,000 on stockers!
I could'nt imagine what your putting up with!!!
The best 275.00 I spent and yes they are the HD's.
At 92,000.......I was just done!

as for that rack.........I purchased a 48 by 48 rack and extended it to 5.5 ft
and fabricated my own fastening system using the stock sliders in the side rails of the truck..Just the metal squares with the threaded holes.
Everything else had to go.
I fabricated a triangular airdam to prevent the annoying humm fro the rack in the wind.
Made from flat black plexiglass and aluminum angle and rivets.
All a major pain in the ace but I was determined to have a rack that was short and long and nothing stock even came close for 135.00.
2 Harbor freight lights were added to the rear to shine the road while we retrieve snakes.
So ..........the few times I need the rack it works great and is low profile.
Not a mod I would publish because it's involved and done off the cuff one time.
That pic is near lake pleasant NW of phoenix. Kenny >S

kenny,

if you can get clear protective tape, put it under the rubber molding on the air dam. i did not for a year and it left a rubbing mark.

Is there a problem with running Bilsteins and stock springs? I have had HDs sitting in my house forever waiting to see if I really want to lift the truck, and I realize I want to leave it stock height for now.

Any ideas?

Your truck looks great by the way!!!!!!!!!

the rack was ordered from A1-autoracks.com
Safari rack..158.00 shipped.
I actually appied black door edge molding to the sharp edges to give a finished look and to prevent rubbing.
It's actually tight to the roof and does not move.
