Ecu question 03-04 Tacoma

Hey there, I purchased a 93 4runner with a 3.4 swap I recently had accidentally jumped my car with the wires crossed and it blew the 80a and the 15 amp Efi fuse. I then replaced the fuses but every time the key is turned to the on position the 15amp fuse pops so I took the car to a shop and they decided it is the ecu that needs to be replaced so I have been searching for a 03-04 Tacoma ecu m/t with the part number of 89661-0y010 but I cannot seem to find them. So I come here asking if there is any other ecu's that are compatible with the set up I have or if anyone is selling one. Thank you guys! I hope to get my rig back on the road very soon.

I have a hard time believing that's it the ECM but I've been wrong lots of time.

A sure way to know would be to unplug it, turn in the key and see if the fuse blows. If so, probably the ECM. If not, look elsewhere. It could still be something the ECM is controlling too though.

On the ECM itself, car-part.com is a good resource. Screw eBay.

Search computer box-engine.

A place called ECM Depot out of Texas rebuilds them pretty reasonable

I have a spare one I need to get rebuilt when I remember.

The ECM was unplugged and the fuse no longer pops, I can't say I'm too good with electronic diagnostics so I took it to a shop but they say that it's the ECM but I doth really know for sure. I checked car-part and hopefully I'll be able to get one shipped from them thank you! But I am still open to other possibilities so throw it out there is you have any ideas.

did they unplug all of the plugs? or just the plug that supplies constant 12v and ignition power to ecu as well as the injectors and sensors? could be the wires shorted out somewhere there. Have them verify that the wiring to that plug has correct power.

Thanks for updating the thread. Sucks it was the ECU- those fuses are supposed to protect it. Whoever did the wiring swap could have cut corners thus popping the ECU.

yeah, the fuses tried to protect it, but I guess tome of the current managed to make its way through to the ECU. its all good now. I got a pretty good deal on it so I didn't get set back too much. on a side note. yes, the wiring is a real mess in my truck. I want to run through the whole thing, but I don't even know where to start! or even how to understand what is going on with all of the randomness. lol
