i just got a new rig and it didnt come with the owners manual....i have that on order and i cant figure out what the ect button means on my 2000 4runner limited 4wd.....please answer this for me its the only think left i dont know how to use...thanks

right bythe rear defrost it has power and normal...

I believe it stands for Electronically Controlled Transmission or something.

In power, it will hold gears longer, thus "more power" so to speak (its better for towing and spirited driving)

In normal, it will shift sooner, generally resulting in better fuel economy.

Electronically Controlled Transmission

I'm pretty sure it makes it shift later. It keeps your truck in the lowest possible gear, therefor causing you to shift later. This is actually worse for fuel economy because you are revving higher, and in the low gears longer... correct me if I'm wrong...

 

I am correcting you because I think you are wrong.

Normal= Granny driving, better economy, does not hold a gear as long

Power= Aggressive, road-rage type driving, holds each gear longer allowing revs to go higher than normal.

I meant to say that in ECT mode, it shifts later. I see where I got confused! It just took me like 5 times to get what was going on.!

I should get my ECT button steering wheel mounted. So I can hit it like NOS *click*....zooooooooom. (the zoom is the gas guage going down :rolleyes: )
