I have to ask about the ECT again. I was told it stands for Electronically Controlled Transmission, and it need to be on (in the lighted position) during city driving when there are frequent start and stops. When on the highway it is to be in the off position (unlighted) so the transmission changes the gears normally. I was also told it is for highway driving for more power. Next problem, I have an HKS Turbo timer, it malfunctions a lot, sometimes if it is set for 30 seconds it runs for more than 3 minutes, and other thimes it just does not work.
I must also say, this is one of the best sites I've been too and I have shown it to all my Surf and 4 runner friends in Trinidad. keep it up!

Since you have a diesel, lucky you, it may be different but for ours the ECT should only be engaged when you need extra power like in pulling objects, going up a steep hill, or jack rabbit starts otherwise keep it off. It will efffect gas milage and the engine will shift differently. Hope this helps.

The ECT changes the points at which the computer tells the transmission to shift. ECT on delays the upshifts and allows the engine to build more RPM's - for mine it seems to delay the downshifts too. I don't like the shifting in either position so I tend to shift manually more that I probably should.

Thanks for the replies. I think it should work the same for diesel and gas alike. When it is on, the gears change a lot faster, I'll use it with loads only.

Are you sure you have your turbo timer hooked up correctly? Is it the type that actually reads engine rpms and calculates the time, or does it just calculate the time it should be left on by the amount of time the engine is running?

I can't say if it is the type that reads the rpms or the type that is an actual timer. I says Random Access Control on it. It is a used unit I bought so I don't know any details on it. The mechanic took it to an electrican to install so I don't know about the connection either. If someone has the specs on this model i would appreciate it, thanks
