Is it easy to put 92-95 headlamps in a '91?

I would like to put the composite style headlamps in my 1991 4runner. How easy is it to do? Do I need to get a new grille assembly or do they just bolt right up?

Thanks

I think you do need a new grill, but I'm not really sure about what else. Try a search - I think this was just discussed the other day.

I don't think it will look right. The 92-95 grill is molded to fit those lights. Putting 90-91's in there isn't going to look right.

90-91:

92-95:

Now, I DO SELL these for 90-91's.

It's a new clear housing that takes a H4 bulb. They also fit 90-91 4Runners and this is the latest version.

Am I able to put the 92-95 grille assembly including the composite headlights into my 91? I want to get the more rounded look of the 92-95 front end on my 91. It seems like all I have to do is get the grille assembly from a 92-95 series and bolt it right up to my 91 front end. It appears simple enough and I could not see a radical change in bolt on points for the grille in the same body style.

It's not that easy. A friend of mine did it in his '89 PU. He bought the 92-95 4Runner grill and headlight assembly on eBay for like $200.00. You need that and the parking lights for it all to fit correctly. There is quite a bit of notching that has to be done for the new grill to fit. Also, you have to use sheetmetal screws instead of the snap in clips to make it work...but it does look killer!! I've always wanted to do it to my '94 PU and still might. The only regret he had was the grill is a little "loose" and the headlights have a tendency to vibrate on bad roads. Big deal.

I know I have pics somewhere, just gotta find them. When I do, I'll post them here.

Good luck.

I think that the 89 pickup is quite different than 91 4runner in the front grille area. Has anyone on the list done the 92-95 headlight conversion into a 91? I can't believe that no one has tried this.

I have seen a picture of a 89-95 pickup with the 4Runner headlights. It is in the photos section of the www.totalchaos.com website.

I looked into doing this about 2 years ago, and it will cost you a fortune!

The upper radiator frame support needs to be changed as well as the sheet metal behind each headlight. The part numbers for all those are different. Even if you were to buy these parts, they are not a bolt on installation. They must be welded in place. That means some how cutting your existing metal out. It was going to cost well over $1k (CDN$) when I was investigating it.

IMHO, I think the $1k can be better spent somewhere else.

Bummer, definitely not worth a grand. Thanks for the input. The snow in the DC area is at about a foot and i have been 4wheeling all over the place. 4 runners rule the snow!!!
