E-Locker Dash Light?
Just bought a 99 Limited 4-runner w/e-locker.
Just a question for those w/the factory e-locker...
When you hit the dash switch, does the dash light for the locker stay on or flash on and off?
Just wondering... mine flashes. Someting wong?
I guess I just need to test it in some mud to make sure its working.

suppose to stay on...when you push the button, drive slowly in a figure 8 and you will "align the teeth" as some call it to lock it. and same way to disengage. I am sure other will chime in.

Still flashing, and it won't engage.
The stealership still 'owes' me a 60k maintenance. I think I'll have them check it.
BTW, I did the blue/red wire mode, but it was flashing before.

My understanding of the e-locker is that it takes a little while to engage. That is to say, it has to warm up. So when it is flashing it is warming up, and then the light should eventually (maybe even a minute) go on solid.
Also, the locker only works in 4 lo, so if you push it any other time it will just flash indefinitely.
Hope this helps.

Not to flame here, but the e-locker does not need to "warm up."
On my Taco, it would engage in 1 second, and other times it would take 20 seconds. It all depends on positioning.

The chevys had that element that would heat up and push out an actuator to engage it into 4WD. They were notorious for failure, but then again it's a chevy...

I did disable the e-locker 'has to be in 4-lo' function.
Still not engaging. I'll try some other stuff this evening.

Tried it again. 4-lo, circles, back and forth, etc. Still Flashing.
I'm wondering if the motor is stuck. I think I'll unplug it and jumper the connections to make it lock and unlock.
Like I said before though. It was flashing when I bought the 4-runner. I didn't know any better b/c I have never had a runner w/e-locker before. I thought flashing was engaged, although I did think that was strange.

OK, the electric locker has two flashing "modes". The first is a steady on/off flash, which means the light stays lit and unlit for the same amount of time. If this is the case, then the locker splines aren't aligned yet.
The second flashing mode is when the light stays unlit longer than it stays lit. You get this type of flashing when you're trying to engage the locker over 5mph.
There may even be a third flashing mode to indicate not properly being in 4LO, but I've disabled that function so that I can use it in 2HI and 4HI

my truck is brand spanking new, and I've only played with the locker once in the dirt alley, but I've got the same blinking issue. I went forward and backed up but it still only flashed. The ABS light is also lit, which I think is normal. I have not tried the figure 8 yet, but I hope this locker is working! It seems like it will be a great feature this winter.
