I stupidly left the key in the on position in my '96 for a week and drained the battery. The battery (a new Die Hard), takes a charge, but when I try to start it drains instantly - no cranking, nothing but the ammeter going to 0 as soon as I turn the key.
Anyone have an idea as to what I fried? I live 20 miles away from the nearest parts house and I am not really experienced at electrical issues.

 

Have another battery you could try? Hooked the positive and negative correctly?

So you're not absolutely sure that the battery took a full charge?

You probably did not fry anything, and battery just needed to be recharged longer to recover from deep discharge.

The only way that a a good battery that had been charged fully will drain quickly is if you put an extremely high-current load, higher than a winch and a starter combined. That would be equivalent to a dead-short and would have been a violent and fiery event

 

Get your battery tested. Fully draining a cranking battery can ruin it.

I'd check the battery at a local auto store to make sure its not fried from being fully croaked.
