Dull headlight?

Does anyone know if the aftermarket headlights are duller than the OEM headlights? (headlights are the 1st gen sealed bulb style) The headlights on my truck are very bright, brighter than expected. On a buddies truck, his headlights were the same way. One blew out and we replaced it with a headlight from a parts store... the new replacement is noticibly duller, by a fair amount, at least half as bright. Anyone got anything?

buy the h4 conversions to unsealed beams with replaceable bulbs... if you want euro clear check out www.procarparts.com or any of the various ebay listings... if you want ones that are DOT approved and all that do a search for daniel stern lighting, and find some DOT legal h4 bulbs in wattages that you like, or get the plasma white bulbs or whatever...

The best thing you can do for the dim headlight problem on the early Toyotas is to upgrade the headlight wiring harness. I saw a 40% light output increase on my '85 with just the harness upgrade:

On top of that, you can upgrade to the H4 style halogen headlights if desired for more light (with a higher output bulb) and a better light pattern.

Cory, Check the fuses in the fuse box in the engine compartment. When the fuse blows, the light still turns on, but is very very dim...

I have silverstar sealed beams on my 1st gen and they are pretty damn good...When aimed right they defintly out perform stock h4s on my friends avalon...i reccomend throwing some of those on there. As for wiring if..the wiring for the lights on first gens suck. upgrading the wires seems like it would be a good upgrade

Our problem wound up being a connection... replaced the connector and checked out other connections, and everything is good now.
