There seems to be little infoprmation on disabling DRL's on an '01 4Runner. I slao know that some who have done it have trouble with the High Beam indicator light afterwards. I found this on another sight and thought I'd pass it along. I'm gonna try it on mine when I get some time to do it.

There is no resistor on the 2001. I see where the resistor used to go,
there is a place right next to the battery on the inner fender with a
threaded hole and with two more holes on either side, where the
resistor probably was mounted.

Under the dash, kind of above where your right leg goes to the
accelerator, is a squarish black box labeled "Running Lights." Unplug
the connector (there is a latch you need to press down on as you
pull the connector out).Remove pin 2 (there are two big pins, pins 1, &
2, and two rows of smaller pins; pin 2 is the second big pin in from
the side). Plug the connector back in.

I had a heck of a time removing the pin, you need to press down a
little plastic latch from the front, and push the pin out. Wrap the pin with
some electrical tape, and secure it to the harness with a cable tie.
You can also just snip the wire going to pin 2, then you'd have to
solder the ends together to restore the DRLs.

No one who has tried this has said anything about the high beam indicator light, so maybe we have finally found a fix.

 

I couldn't say for a 2001. On my 2000, it was as simple as unplugging a connector on the driver's side inner fender next to the battery.

 

'01's don't have that relay. That's what the instructions talk about with the threaded holes on the fender wall.

It was right there in the tech write-ups and it is even for an 01!

 

That TSB is for 2000 not '01. Look on page one under the model year colum. Doing it that way will cause the high beam induicator light problem on an '01.

Did take it as were trying to start something. No worries.

The problem with doing it that way is that it causes problems with the high beam indicator light. It seems to make it stay on constantly. Do a search and you'll see. I believe it even happend to the person who did the tech write up.

No one here seemed to be able to find the remedy for an '01. So when I saw this I figured I'd post it to be helpful.

 

On my '02 I didn't have that relay under the hood. So I just went under the dash with a test light and snipped the wire. No highbeam light on the dash since.

 

see i have an 02 and that thing is glowing!!! but i haven't checked under the hood what is that supposed to accomplish?

 

turn ur light on then flash the brights and when you turn it all off my high beam light goes off did that for a few days and the light dont come on anymore

 

I've got an 01 LTD and taped back the second white wire (like in the write up). I don't have a problem with the High Beam Indicator. I was worried too at first, but now I'd say go for it. My High Beam indicator light has yet to come on unexpectedly. It flashes for a millisecond when I start the truck, but it never comes back on. When I toggle from High to low, the indicator lights up as it should.

Trust us and go for it.

 

i'll try that i swear this is like doing some keypad trick on a PS2 or something lol

 

My high beam indicator light would never go off.......but one day it went off and stayed off. COOL!

I turned the lights on flashed the high beams turned it off...nada...light still glowing
