Driving a 3rd gen hard. bad?

Hey gang just a question out of curiosity. Is it bad to drive my 3rd gen hard? I try to keep it under 3500 rpm unless towing. Is it bad to habitually rev to higher rpms? Is there a question of wear on the engine to drive it hard? Might be a kind of stupid question but has always been on my mind. Thanks guys.

Heh...I beat the ลลลล out of my parent's 4Runner. Ive burned through a half a tank of gas since last night, just from driving ~10ish miles. Rich conditions at WOT is a bitch.

I was WOT all the time while mudding, no harm done. The 22R/22RE motors are tough as nails.

I have come to the conclusion that I will own my truck for a long time so I try to be real easy on it now. If you plan to have it for a while why be rough on it?

Yes, there is a major question of increased wear on the engine. Toyotas are tough though. By the way, I don't see how you could burn up half a tank of gas in ~10 miles. Unless you held it wide open in neutral the whole time and let the wind push you Poor Runner.

Then you hit another vehicle, killing some people then next you "hear" the words "guilty" then a BANG! No it's not a good idea to drive your vehicle hard unless you are wanting to replace the engine/transmission much sooner than a well-driven vehicle. I don't know about other vehicle manufacturers but I know GM has an anti-abuse system integrated into the PCM. So you can't run WOT unless you either reprogram it or have a GM Tech to disable it.

It depends what you consider to be "hard" driving. I would say that constantly lugging the engine is harder on it than revving it out to 4,000 rpm in every gear.
Of course, the harder you drive it, the fewer miles it will last.
