Drive shaft counting for 4.88's
Hello All
Last night I started looking into getting gears for the 93 4x4 pickup.
Right before I bought this truck from my younger brother he blew up the rear end on it and replaced it w/ another. Probblem is he put the wrong gear in the rear versus the one he took (no more 4 wheel drive)out and noticed a huge decrease in acceleration.
So I counted the # of times the rear shaft spun while spining the rear tires 1 full spin. I came up w/ 2 and a hair (maybe another 5-10 degrees of rotation past 2).
That means 4:10's right? That's what the VIN says it should be.
My thoughts are:
When my brother bought the truck it already had the 4in. lift and rolling on stock steelies. So i'm thinking the original owner put gears & 33's on it (why else do a 4in. susp. lift?)and when it came time to sell he took off his rims and put the stockers back up there. Atleast I'm hoping this is the case.
SO, I guess what i'm asking is how many times should the front drive shaft spin to be 4.88s? 2.4 times?
4.56's? 2.25 or so?
I know I should just crack the front open and start counting teeth, but I'm just going for a rough figure right now.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
