Downey's site sucks...

I grew up near them and always respected their products when there was not much of an aftermarket for Toys, they were there for us.

But their internet site really sucks!

I wonder how many sales they lose because it's not easy to just look stuff up.

Seriously, how hard could it be to PDF your catalog? and add online ordering?

Sorry to say, but Downey kinda sucks in general IMO. Poor customer service and nobody whith a brain when it comes to answering the phone. I used to live near them too, but with todays aftermarket variety... you can do better.
All this is solely My Opinion, and I'm not trying to vendor bash but they suck.

Oh, and I got a catalog if you need to know something in specific... just collecting dust in the mag rack.

You realize that is their new and updated site, right?

The funniest thing about them is that they have an extended breather kit for for like $40 per axle!

They have the best fitting fiberglass fenders, though. Hannemann has been the worst fitting in my experience, and Downey fits almost like OE.

How do you get they are poor? What have they done/doing to even rate that good? Nonexistant after-the-sale customer service would be an even better description.

People rag on Fabtech, but compared to the "superior" products Downey makes, they are perfection itself.

Smack me if I ever buy Downey again...

I've ordered from them twice. Both times it was easy and went perfectly. I've had no issues with them.

I would probably look to them more often if they had an online catalog and online ordering. Their current site is pretty bad.

I ordered from them once. They were friendly on the phone, but didn't know how much shipping would be for a certain product. They told me to send an extra $20 with my check. They shipped me the product and a check for the difference in the shipping. They do have some nice stuff in the catalog, but only a small amount of what they carry is on the web site.

Don't get me started on NWOR!

I always hope that someone at Downey (or whomever we are talking about) will see the thread and make a positive change...

That's half of their problems. If those two would spend the time and effort wasted on each other on their customers, they'd probably have more of them.

As it is, I bought from Downey exactly once and NWOR exactly once. Never again.

please supply a link for me, the site i have on my favourites list is pretty dismal. im trying to price out headers for my v6 auto, they show part numbers for the relocation kit and cross over kit but no prices or pictures. i requested a performance products catalogue online, they sent it free within a matter of 4 days. downey want $5 upfront, no mention of discounting this with your first order. i understand catalogues cost big money to produce, people that are requesting a specialized catalogue such as theirs will more than likely purchase at least one 'big ticket' item. an online catalogue would be nice, if i dont see what i want or understand how something works, i will ask. less cost for me (lond distance phone calls) and email is a quick way to confirm just about anything. hope they do check boards like these and take the suggestions positively. we all benefit from that. sorry about the long rant!

I've got both of their catalogs and looked into headers for my 3.0,but they both claim their headers are better than each others and each system(by the time you add all the extras )were astronomical.

That's why I buy from the redneck's at Summit. Granted, one of the monkey's stole my CC # and proceeded to try and charge over 2 grand at Amazon (idiot), but other than that they are straight forward and keep adding import parts to their "domesticated" product line. And they send free catalogs - almost as many as Griot's

Oh I'm sure we're looking at the same site: http://www.downeyoff-road.com/home_content.html

That's my point, it's new and updated and it still sucks.

I was just looking at their site that was linked above and saw this on the suspension components page:
"4 Runners must be 2WD models or have
unlocking hubs for 3” of lift. 1996-newer models see new unlocking hub conversion kit #43502"

When did they get this? Anyone know a price? Times like these are when an online catalog comes in handy.

i hate that i ordered catalogs from both of these companies on the exact same night about 2 months ago and havent recieved either one yet. they both need to set up online ordering. they would get tons more business like that in my opinion. OR AT LEAST SEND ME MY CATALOGS SO THERE IS SOME FREAKIN WAY TO ORDER STUFF.

Downey just got their new catalogs in yesterday, so you will probably be seeing one in the mail soon. I guess there was a problem with the printing company they used.
As far as their on line site, yes it's pathetic compared to what's out there. Their catalog is a good source of info, particularly for new folks. It costs money, and so does a phone call to the company, but it's a small business. I cut them some slack because they are trying to do something right instead of doing it big. If I want cheap plastic crap I'll go to Wal mart.
