Downey 1.5" rear springs

Let me start by saying my driver side rear springs are broke, and the shackles are rusted to hell. So heres my question I was looking at my downey catalog (have to read it in the dark so my wife doesn't catch me ) anyway they have the 1.5" lift rear springs and torrsion bars as a kit. I was wondering if I really need the hd torrsion bars, or can I just crank the stock ones to level the truck out. Now to the shackles they have 2 options the downey & the rubicon, just wondering what the better brand is and if there is any difference in the 2. Thanks guys

was actually wondering the same thing, been searching through the forum for the past couple days.. heard about torsion bars exploding.. mechanic here in town has half his face destroyed from that exact thing happening (definetely not cranking them up myself)

so, can these 14-16 year old torsion bars take the crank?

How much crank are you guys talking about?

If you crank the fronts (and maybe with the new TBs too), you are going to need manual hubs otherwise those CV boots might not last too long.

Sorry, I don't have anymore answers for ya.

1 to 1 1/2" to compensate for the new rear springs.

I don't think you'd be happy with hd t-bars. They will make your front end incredibly stiff. Even if you were running a winch and bumper, I still think they would be too much. Just crank your oem bars to the desired stiffness/lift.

You should be able to do that but those hubs had better come quick.

The common consensus is that you are safe with a maximum of 1.5" of crank. I have been running this for over 30k miles with no cv problems.

From what I know, I don't think you can crank the stock torsion bars to more than about 3/4" safely. I cranked mine 1/4" after teh rear lift and the front is exactly the same as the rear now.
