You havent been reading the most detailed 4Runner History on the net....Hehe http://www.top4runners.com/ja/runhist.html

In 2001 It was not called the Sport Edition, they just called it a 4Runner with the Sport Package Option.

The Sport Package (for 2002 ) is enhanced with perforated aluminum front skidplate, new interior sport fabric, Sport Edition badges, and embroidered floor mats. This Sport Edition is now available only in Thunder Cloud, Black, Sunfire Red and Stellar Blue Pearl color schemes. In 2001 You could get the Sport in Jade, Black, Silver.

Hope that helps some.

good reply, it did help. That's why I can not get the 2002 Silver Sport edition, so I have to go with the Thunder Cloude Metalic.

I have a 2001 Sports Edition! Actually it is called a Sports Package

The Difference between the Sports Edition and basic SR5 are:
The Sport Edition has: Metallic Dash
4.10 Gears
Monochrome pacakage (fenders/bumpers)
Hood Scoop
16x7 Alloy Wheels with P265/70R16 Tires
Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel
Sport Seats with 4way adj. headrests

I think those are the biggest differences.

In 2002 they added sports badges, different seat cloth and a silver garden rake, uh I mean skid plate

I've never figured this one out: If the SE comes with the 4.10 rear end, what do the others come with? I scoured the brochures and never came up with an answer.

The 4.10 option comes with all 4Runners that have the 16" wheels. You must take it you have no choice, sport or not.

WooHoo I am a senior now...

Yes, but what rear end was supplied with the other wheels? I've never seen a reference.

15" wheels get 3.9's

In 1999 if you got the e-locker, Auto trans and V-6 you got 4.3's.

In 1999 If you got a 4cyl, locker and 16" wheels you got 4.56 I believe. S.Schaefer has that rare combo.

I believe another difference between the 2001 w/ sports package and the 2002 sport edition is that the area around the rear license plate on the 2002 is the same color as the rest of the vehicle whereas on the 2001, that area is a gray color.
