Difference in '92 and '93 3.0V6

Scouring through a shop manual for my 4runner, I saw that I had about 150hp. While that's not great, it's more than I'm used to, and it does what I want it to.

But! The '93 and up years has a whopping 180hp! Who can tell me the differences in these, is it just ECU tuning and a little compression, er what?

My 93 came stock with 150hp. The 3.0 V6 never made more than 150 hp in stock tune (phased out in 95)

I'd say it's probably a misprint. The '96+ 4Runners with 5VZ (3.4L) claimed 183 hp stock.

I know that in Europe Toyota changed the 3VZ-E from 12V 150 hp to 24V 180 hp. That was '92-'93 I believe.

I know because I looked it up. And since I have a '90's 4Runner..

Hope my supra swap will solve that problem

well Crap! I'll have to make another run to the library to look up the specs again!

If I remember right, the '93's had a little more compression, like 9.6:1 instead of 9:1, and I figured the ECU did the rest. I'll report back what I find.

Compression is still 9 to 1 no matter what year 3vze. There were too many head gasket issues to raise compression.

They've all got the same 150hp. See for you self at Edmunds. That was the whole reason for designing a new engine. The 3vze is just a turd. That's why people spend money on it to have a little more power.

I found a Supra motor today (turbo) for $850. $1050 if I want the harness and ECU. I'll beat the guy up on price. I think these go for $500 usually.
