I don't think it should be a problem. Your airbox is right behind the headlight and you'll only get minor splashes from down below. I think it only needs to be capped if you're guaranteed going to have immersion. I've never capped mine in the rain and I've been okay for the last 6 months.

Come to think of it, it's time to wash my Amsoil filter. Thanks for the reminder

You have absoultely nothing to worry about. When I had mine open, it was open for everything except water crossings when I expected the water to be deeper than the bumper. That includes the Seattle winter when it can rain non-stop for weeks.

Stay out of the giant/deep puddles but otherwise no worries.

This is the only time you will need the deckplate cap on if you are concerned with water.

Being from around here we really can't talk, what have we had, one or two rainstorms since last winter? Less than one inch total rainfall for the county? Record breaking drought.
But since everyone else says it's okay in the rain, I'll believe them.

Bottom line - seems like the group is split halfway - maybe more leaning towards the deckplate mod... but that's mostly because it'll only cost ya $15 tops. People have different reasons for what they've got.

Try a search (as everyone would tell you) and use as many words as you can to narrow it down or you'll have a LOT of reading to do. :pat:

Here's a start for you using the keywords: deckplate K&N FIPK perfomance

There is just no way the deckplate does not work.
It can only help airflow not hurt it.....I am obviously on the go for it side.

After seriously contemplating the deckplate mod before I did it on my own rig, I agree that there is no way that it does not work. The whole ideology behind a combustion engine is working towards complete combustion, which requires enough oxidizer, which in this case is air, for the fuel to be completely burned. Increasing the air flow, or perhaps in this case making the air flow less restricted and cooler, can only enhance the A/F ratio, thus making the engine move closer to complete combustion. If nothing else, I like the growl!

I've never bothered to put the deckplate cap on unless I am off-road and purposely getting in a significant amount of water. I think Jason B's pic says it all.
