Question Deck plate-hot air

I am intrigued by the deck plate mod, but, I have installed cone filters on other vehicles, and unless the engine is cool, and the air outside is cool, I have noticed a decrease in power due to the hot engine compartment air being drawn into the engine. Any ideas or pics on deck plate mods with barriers to internal compartment?

Thanks a lot for all the info you guys have put out there.
Very informative.
K

Welcome to the forum, K!

Good question, but it really isn't an issue with our style airbox, because you are actually cutting the hole in the front of it, so the air really isn't drawn in that much from the engine, more from behind/around the headlight on the passenger side. The Yotatech Tech articles on performance are here . You can see some more pics of the deckplate. The other mod thats gaining a lot of popularity is Dr Z's intake silencer removal mod, you should check that article out, as well.

BTW, what year/ model rig do you have? Do you have any pics to share?

Good Luck and glad you found us!

Thanks a lot for the welcome and the info. I can't seem to find any pics here. Maybe I've got them on my home pc. I'll dig some up. I've got a '99 SR5, 5speed manual. Only mods are some Pacer alum rims, an Amsoil air filter and I just installed the Helix Power Tower. I must say, I was a little disappointed in it. I really noticed very little if any improvement in throttle response or perf. I'm curious if it will improve mileage. I also didn't feel any perf boost from the Amsoil filter. I have mod'd other vehicles and can usually tell even minor improvements.
Thanks again. I'll be hanging around here in my rare free moments.

Yeah, a big welcome!!

I'm sure you'll notice a difference if you do a combination Deckplate AND Dr. Z's Intake Silencer Mod.

Read the info and decide yourself. All (except the SC guys) that have done them are very satisfied with the performance increase as far as I know.

With the deckplate, you will notice that you don't get much improvement from standing starts or low speed. But what you do benifit from is higher speeds, when cool air rushes in through the headlight area. Take it from me, it works, and works well. I had it in my 96 and I definetly could tell a difference.
