Still holding off on getting the next HG done...the last dealer only offered the rental for 1 lousy day.

I have always had a rental car from the dealer. I remember I went in to get an oil change during lunch break (right near work) and about 40 min later I asked if my truck was done. They said they have yet to finish it. I told him that I had to get back to work and needed my truck, so he offered to lend me the courtisy car (a nice 4runner) which I begrudently took

I loved that dealer... they where always cool for service. Now sales was completely different.

Wow, that is just messed up. Another thing that pisses me off is when the white gangsta lot attendants (why are they all like that here?) show up with both your seats "leaning back" and some rap station on. Makes you wonder.

I worked for a small independent shop through high school and we were never allowed to take cars out for lunch or anywhere else. I would definetly push for some more mods than just getting the timing belt/chain (whatever it is) replaced. I'd get all the things listed, like what EDGE said and what praufet said. Oh yeah, and you should have already gotten a loaner car. They have no right unless they are test driving some repairs that may affect the driving safety of the car. If they are dealing with brakes, tires, or some custom work to the engine. Push 'em hard, it was their f-up and it's their job to now bend over backwards for you.

I was a technician for Ford for just over 3 years. I have mixed feelings about dealerships. I met mechanics that would short themselves on a job because they knew the owner didn't have the money to pay the full labor. I also met mechnanics that would randomly replace parts until they found one that fixed the problem (usually due to inexperience). There really are good honest mechanics out there but the dealership itself is usually the crooks in my opinnion.

As for driving customers vehicles, I drove them to lunch, sometimes home for the night, or even for a weekend...but the customer and service manager ALWAYS knew what I was doing. If you did not notify the service manager and the customer of your intentions - the dealership would not back you up if the customer reported it stolen.

There is no excuse for this however give the dealership the chance to make it right. See what they offer. Above all, insist the mechanic that drove it away does not work on the car.

The dealership I bought my taco from re-embursed me when the rear diff went out. They are not all bad.

UPDATE...

Got off the phone with the service manager. They noticed that the radiator didn't look to good. So they will fix the radiator along with the tailgate window motor, timing belt and a detail job. I also talked with the tech and he could not say "sorry" enough and thanked me for not having the dealer fire him. He seemed scincere (sp) and he would make sure my runner was fixed right. I think the tech will bend over backwards to satisify me in his work...but if not the dealer still "owes" me for not making a big stink or mentioning their name in this forum. After this ordeal is done I will call toyota corp. and tell them about this and see if I can get something out of them.

Pick up my baby tomorrow so we'll see.

I think realistically, they should at the very least buy you a full tank of gas on top of the timing belt.

Hang on a second...after taking all the freebies the Dealer offered in return (Sounds like $200-300 worth) to make things right for his tech taking your runner you're going to call and complain???

I think I would be calling Customer Service to compliment the Dealer, for making things right and keeping you happy.

I had a buddy once go in to buy a new truck and they said to him "just leave us your old truck and title and you can drive the new one home for a weekend test drive" so he does just that.

Then on Saturday he gets a call from one of his buddies asking him if he recently sold his old truck off. To which he replies "not yet but I am test driving a new one I think I may keep it" his buddy then tells him he just saw his old truck go through a local auction lot and get SOLD.....oh man it got bad from there on.

The guy takes the new truck back on Monday and tells the dealer that it was a nice truck but he just isn't ready to do the deal yet and would like his old truck and tittle back.

The salesman didn't know what happened and many minutes go buy before the manager comes out to explain what happened and all. My buddy stands his ground and says he is gonna go through all legal channels and do what ever he can under the law to go after them....then the price of the new truck starts dropping...and dropping...and dropping. Finally when the price was almost 50% off sticker and the 'trade in' value was factored from his old truck at 100% of blue book - he ended up buying the new truck for next to nothing.

You want to hear abuse? I had a transport driver put a cigarette burn in the interior of my one month old G35. I went absolutely nuts! The thought of a dealership employee smoking in a customer car is a disgrace. My car was being taken from the dealer to their body shop for a new bumper, (it had a small scratch). After I told the service manager, he had the transport driver fired. I had an Infiniti loaner anyway, and I kept it until the interior panel was fed-exed in and replaced. Maybe I should have asked for compensation....but the dealership has been very good to me on other issues. At that point I had still not gotten over the great price they gave me on the car, ($300 over invoice), and was pretty happy to be getting a loaner car for bodywork.

i would ลลลล an f'n brick. the o nly 2 guys i let touch my 4runner at the dealership in co is the head mech (who is the f'n ลลลล, took my drivers side stuck o snap handle off, which involved taking out the steering colum, a bunch of panels and part of the dash along with 4 other techs all for free) and the assistant guy who has an incredible supra. they scratched my 4runer once and i complained so they took it to the detail shop did all that jaz then gave me a free bottle of touch up paint and fixed the tiny scratch by taping it off, airbrushing it and waxing/clear coat of some sort

I dont plan calling Toyota corp any more. They broke the EGR valve and are replacing it for totally free. They are also putting new Idler, tenionsor, water pump and radiation. I just pay parts, they qouted me $600...I got my own parts for $250 and they are installing them for me free.

If everything works out I will be Happy and leave it at that, now the pick up is Thur so I will see then.
