Thanks Henhouse 1 for some useful info on fixing the digital clock. I have a '99 and it goes in and out. Tapping really hard helps sometimes. I've tried checking the plug connection and that isn't it. Does anyone know what causes it to go in and out? Any other fix ideas? I guess they just go.

99, just fine

when it goes out, does it reset, or does it keep time ?

that will tell ya if it is a display or power connex prob

Mine has gone out as well. It'll come back on once every blue moon for a few minutes, and no, it doesn't reset. The time is dead on when I do see it come back (maybe off by an hour for DST). When I was buying some replacement console dash lights at the stealership they pointed out there is actually a replaceable LED light behind the clock that often goes out. Not sure if that may fix it, since LEDs usually go out for good, not come back on/off. Maybe it's the contacts for it or something.

Which guage are you talking about? I've been looking for a good quality auto gauge that has those fuctions and I've yet to find one that I'm comfortable with. I found these a while back:

But I found a site a long time ago with reviews on them and I wasn't that impressed after that.

i've made two purchases from Dakota Digital and was happy with them both times. the gauge i was talking about is THIS ONE but they have OTHERS that may be a little cheaper. although, if i can find one on ebay one of these days, i'll just get a replacement. or, i can always get the pod on the a-pillar or do something else but i'd like to try to keep it clean looking inside. another thing with the dakota digital gauges is the display is usually either white or blue, so that would not go with my green LED theme i've got going on

I have replaced my dash clock to GPS car radar which is separeted monitor and GPS.
which looks way better but it's sold in JPN.
I am not sure GPS works in USA for now.
I am planning to test it when I go to business trip to US.
If this works in US it will be one of good looking mod

Here is day time pic

night time turns black back ground.

Interesting gizmo... not sure I like the shape of the 7500 aesthetically speaking. but it could probably be mounted someplace unobtrusive or MacGyvered into the dash somehow...

Hirox that little unit rocks! I want one... can't wait to hear if it functions in NA or not... can you provide a linky for the supplier/mfg. of it?
Thanks

ps welcome to the family

Thanks for comments guys

Here is the link of this radar.

There are no english site I could find.
but you can have idea what you can see on display and what it look like before install to dash from the pic.
After I installed this for few years, this is still only radar to fit in dash as clock in JPN.
All other companys separete types are too big or too wide to fit and still I needed to file the top and side of silver frame of monitor down a little to fit center.
Radar monitor is getting bigger with easy GPS navigation and bigger screens like 2,5 inch.

a few people in US wanted this before at other 4runner site so
I have made phone call to Comtec before and asked this works in other country or not.
They said not sure and they can not guarantee...and it is basically made for JPN only.
Yeah I know they can not guarantee so I need test in US.

There are still tons of toyota with this type of green clock in US.
Some company should make this style!

The clock does not reset, it holds the time. Usually it will come on when I start the car and then go off. It may come on a little later, but usually not.
