Nice thanks. Kmtoyota retail parts guy couldn't find it. I will go in today and order gasket oring. Last night I removed harness off blown motor, removed cracking and brokenplastic stays. Tundra harness stay were not breaking so I used the two fr tundra, carefully. The fuel line was different too. I kept the fuel runners but swapped fuel line feed. Also removed spark plugs from blown motor
And moved spark packs n wires to newer motor. Lower plenum is in place too but need to torque to spec and install upper plenum.

OK, I picked up oil dipstick o-ring and oil cooler 2" o-ring, the small washer and tranny fill tube o-ring and missing engine bolt are arriving tomorrow morning!

i removed the oil cooler an man it was stuck! it took a lot of pulling and prying. the o-ring was half on the block and half on the oil cooler. i cleaned it thoroughly removed gasket left overs on both and inspected the hoses. The small hose was clogged. as I cleaned it, brown rusty sludge came out. see mthe small hose in pic from manual..

and for the spark plugs? uggh they were bad and one was white hot in color!

I'm not surprised at the brown, rusty sludge in that hose given the yucky rust behind the water pump. It would suck if the whole engine is internally rusted. Do your self a favor and pull the small water hoses on the throttle body and clean them or swap them from your other engine.

the rusty water pump was new motor. It was a junkyard special from 01 tundra. 91k. I bought it from surfer dude and he lives by the surf. (humid air)

the sludge was from my water cooled oil cooler from blown motor. also the front right cylinder has rust around spark tube.

now this eve was a PIN BUTT. I removed and swapped flex plates. while on engine stand DUH. I also removed crank pulley from bad motor, tomorrow i need to rent torque wrench that goes to 250 foots. the torque spec is 217 for crank bolt. tomorrow engine should go in... wish me luck!

A little more than a weekend project, eh? Thought that might be the case!

You're better off taking your time anyway. I admire your bravery diving in to a project like this though! Good on ya!

I'm sure you've figured this out but you're learning TONS. That's the great thing about a project like this. After this there won't be many jobs on a car that you'll be afraid to tackle.

Keep the updates coming and good luck sliding the new motor in!

yes it is!

owell.

issue # ??? 16 LoL

now the tundra motor is in, with the following.

4runner upper lower plenums.
4runner flexplate
4runner AC PS pump.
4runner crankshaft pulley
4runner exaust manifolds and Ypipe
4runner oil cooler
new valve cover gaskets, new waterpump, new timing belt.

all went back in but NOW, my flexplate is too far away from torque converter.

I tried to install one of six bolts and they dont even reach the torque converter. man one hurdle after another.

does the torque converter have a little play to fron n back? if so, maybe a longer bolt or two to pull converter closer to engine flexplate?

any tips?

****edit**** No it is not, im a noobie, as I rotated motor with beaker bar, laying under truck, the threaded 6 holes on torque converter are standing off a bit more that the body of TC. DUH.. my bad...

standing by for some pro advice. ill play some PS3
which order should i bolt tranny to motor to motor mounts? flexplate first?

wow

i got a lot done.

starter install. done
Torque all bolts, per FSM. done
4 bolts n nuts for motor mounts, 28 ft-lbf done
2 starter bolts, 29 ft-lbf done
6 bellhousing bolts, 53 ft-lbf done
reattach AC compressor done

also, i fed harness back through dashboard, secured it. routed and reattached the harness to transmission... I snapped in ALL the connections too.

then I reattached alternator and the power steering pump. I kicked butt, I almost gave up for the night on the starter. man WHAT A PIT buttocks. nope no giving up in my book. thanks to yoga, I reached under passenger side wheel well with left arm, fingertips on bolt, then shoved my head in the wheel well too, this way I could reach my right arm into engine compartment to HOLD the darn starter! if you have never cursed at your 4runner, R/R a starter! You will! LoL thanks for watching, more work tomorrow.

tonight she may "WILL" fire up...

need to still connect two starter wires. attach radiator, fan with fluid coupling, air box and all elec wire plugs. im not sure of this whole thing, so i will leave hood off for now and have someone standing by with fire extinguisher.

top off fluids, double check all connections.

put battery back in and cross my fingers! and have a smoke if she runs. If not back to yotatech for tips.

on my way to kragens now to get coolant and tranny fluid..

i swapped a 3.4 into my old 98 tacoma in a day and a half working from 12-10 or 11.. i can do a 22re (pre dressed and harness on) in about 8 hours or less. on the floor with a cherry picker.. beleive me the more you do it the faster it is! i would say start it without filling the radiator, ONLY FOR LIKE 30 SECONDS!!! just to make sure it runs, no reason to waste coolant!

good luck, i got my fingers crossed for ya!!

It runs!!!

Nice and
Smooth too!!!!!!!!

I attached above items, added one quart of tranny fluid. Added oils and one gallon distilled water.

I fired it up after five turnovers,(5 seconds) vroom!

I saw a bit of smoke/steam rise after warmed up but pretty sure it is from wd40 leftover on ypipe and manifold bolts.

Agree? I drove it to kragens, now having a chocolate shake with mi seniorita, I will shoot some video on my 3GS. Sweeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!

Woohoo! Always a great feeling when they fire right up after the fuel gets there and no check engine light. Especially, on a first swap.

Check the radiator (and all other fluids) and top off as needed after driving a bit. You did do a full oil change on the new one before swapping it in, yes?
Enjoy!

Yes it is and yes I did. Valvoline 5/30 fram filter. I will change it again in two to three weeks just for shoots in giggles. I will always check for water dripping as well as oil/tranny fluid. Thanks again all! Will post video later!

Excellent!

FYI, you can pick up a much better genuine oil filter at the Toyota dealer for only a couple bucks more than the Fram.

Looking forward to the video.

Ahh yes! Here is a video. Start up. Engine has sat for a bit should I keep under 35 mph for a couple days? She runs smooth with no idle jump or miss.

Can't imagine any reason for keeping it at 35 mph since it's not a rebuild needing break-in time.
