Damage?

Is it possible to do some damage when turning 180 degrees in 4WD-you know steering wheel fully turned to one side and going reverse?I need to do that often in the woods and 2WD is not much help in mud or in deep wet gravel.
My previous truck was full time 4WD so I didnt have this kind of problem.
I know that driving 4WD on pavement is not a good idea, but I want to be sure If I can damage my truck in conditions mentioned above and If I can (or already did ) how is that damage manifested.
Oh- I drive first gen with manual hubs-pics coming soon.
Thanks

As long as you are on a low traction surface you should be OK. This will allow the wheels/tires to slip some and prevent the driveline from binding up which is how the damage would occur.

How is driveline bind manifested? I had trouble dissengaging 4wd yesterday - it went smoothly into 4lo and n but I had to drive back and forth to put it in 2wd- is that normal or...?

depending on the rig you own, lst gen, 2nd gen etc, the mechanics of the system dictate the fixes you have to do. lst gens w/manual locking hubs may stick a bit when disengaging and the back and forth you did will free it up. 2nd gens with add sometimes stick also and you can either do the back and forth dance or try driving in a straight line and let up on the gas peddle to take the load off the tcas a bit and that usually does the trick in letting the sleeve assy disconnect and return you to 2wd. if you engage 4wd on dry pavement and try turning a tight turn, you will notice the steering gets heavy and if you are moving slowly, the rig will come to a stop. that is a prime example of your driveline binding up. you dont want to do this if at all possible, it can lead to expensive repairs. feel free to ask questions, the members on here are very knowledgeable and willing to help.
