Well I finally had a free day and decided to change my coils. I jacked up the truck, took off the tires, undid the lower shock bolts, and then put jack stands to support the vehicle. After lowering the diff. I attempted to remove the coils. They would not budge. Had wife stand on lugs, still would not budge. Tried to jack up opposite end, nothing. So, I went to Autozone and rented a coil compressor. The bolt part of it was 12" long and could not find a way to get it into the coil. So, I took it back to see what else they had. They had and outside one but it was already out. So dejected, I came home and put the truck back together. I reread some of the tech write-ups and the only thing I did not have was a BFH. Don't know if that would have helped though. Thinking about just paying someone else to do it. With all of the overtime I am doing, my free time is limited. Can anyone see where I possibly missed something?

I don't know what you did wrong, but I have learned that is alot easier to take it to a mechanic, who has all the right tools and equipment and let them take care of it. That is just my two cents though. Goodluck with everything. :fireman:

Make sure the brake lines and all the other lines down there aren't limiting your downward travel. I had to unbolt some of the lines to get the axle to drop down enough. Also, you can disconnect the sway bar.

with the jackstands supporting the frame, use your jack to raise one side of the axle. this will push the other side of the axle down and the coil should fall out. repeat with the other side to get the other coil out.

be careful not to jack the axle up too much or you might lift the truck off the stands.

oh yeah, make sure your swaybar and shocks are disconnected.

Thanks for the replies guys. I did disconnect the shocks but not the sway bar or brake lines. I guess I will try again next weekend before taking it to the shop.
