Da Da Da DECK PLATE!!!
Well I did it today and I am very happy. My hat is off to the person who discovered this mod. I had a hard time finding the plate. I went to 4 different marine stores and none ofthem had one in stock. I had it ordered and picked it up today. It was white so I painted it black to look better when installed. It does make a throatier sound when you get on it from about 3500 rpms and above. I couldnt notice any sound difference below that. I could definantly notice a difference in acceleration. All in all this mod rules and I highly reccomend it to everyone.
I wasted about a quarter tank of gas driving around today just so i could hear it roar!

I haven't been able to set aside a good amount of time to do this mod but am eagerly anticipating the day that I do
I'm jealous ssbogger
oh yeah, I'll probably end up using a whole tank just jump accelerating out of every red light I get to

fwiw, I found (what I think is) a new source for deckplates, and they're a bit cheaper than another online source that I've seen posted here. $6.69 for a 4" black, $4.95 shipping:
http://www.shipstore.com/ss/html/RAB/RAB4LB.html
Obviously the tax on something like this will be less than the shipping, so it's worth it to call around locally first.
ssbogger: The next thing you should go after is the ISR mod!

I just recently did mine as well.
My house sits at 8750 feet above sea level...
I did the mod for the shear fact that my engine was starving for oxygen at this elevation.
Since the MOD I have noticed better Accel.
However more important to me was the ability for the car to hold it's RPM's when going up hill. I don't have to downshift nearly as early now that the mod is complete. Also when I do downshift going up hills like Dallas Divide I tach much lower (In the 3,000-3,500 range instead of 3,500-4,500).
If you do this mod I highly suggest finding or borrowing a dremmel since it makes cutting the hole a cake walk.
Thanks for the reccomendation YotaTech.
I'd still be stock without you...
Can you say "big lump in my throat..."

DSP - being down below you a bit I can tell you, do the ISR mod as well! The deckplate does wonders for letting more air in (important out here, there isn't much to go around) but the ISR will let that air speed up. When it's less dense to begin with it makes a huge difference, since atmospheric pressure isn't helping you as much out here.

What are some other options for the ISR mod for tubing other than having a muffler shop expand a 2.5'' pipe.? Is there no place that sells some sort of rubber tubing that can be stretched around it?

This may be a stupid question but....when the deckplate cover is on the airbox how does the engine get air? The point is to seal it off so water doesn't get in but I assume the air would also be sealed out. What am I missing here? Thanks.

ssbogger may have a different intake design than earlier models...
but, if not, then you can use plumbing end caps from Lowes or Home Depot like denverbikeguy said. My sig contains some threads regarding the topic. There are also a couple pictures to help you along.

I agree, finding a piece of rubber hose that works for this would be best... Ahh, the quest goes on!
FWIW I have the older intake style like you 96_runner, but I am going to get the two hoses from a newer model with something in the middle and go that route, just to make it a little neater. Need to see what I can find lying around local wrecker yards...

mmm, good!
