Well my buddy Daryl pulled the codes from my 1996 Limited and apparently Cylinder 5 is misfiring. (92,000 miles)

Where would you guys start? Should I replace the plugs? wires? clean injectors?

Do a complete tune-up on it and I bet the code doesn't return. You will also have to have the code cleared from the computer.

..Change plugs/wires and you'll be ok most likely. If not, then you may have a dying coil pack.

 

Believe it or not, this code can also indicate a vacuum leak... Do a careful search for cracked or disconnected hoses.

Doc Z....there are a number of hoses in this dam engine compartment, I checked them all over just to make sure, that there is no leak. Also the engine def runs funny....Rough Idle right off the start. Also when the Cyclinder 5 is disconnected....the Engine seems to be unaffected (i.e. still runs like crap) But when I pull a good Bank the engine gets even rougher.

Well, the fact that you can pull Cylinder #5 and it doesn't affect the engine indicates that that spark plug is definitely not firing.

Take the #5 wire and hold the end of it while the engine is running, with insulated grips of some sort, next to a ground source to see if you get a spark on the wire itself. That will rule out the wire at least if you get spark.

Also, if you have access to a multimeter, check it for continuity. If no spark and the wire has continuity, you can suspect a bad coil pack, although that is a rarity.

There are procdures for testing the coil packs. I'll fill you in on those after you perform the above tests.

You'll get it solved pretty quick now that you have isolated it as electrical and limited to the #5 cylinder!
