CV boots replaced

I had noticed that my DS inner CV boot had begun to leak again about two weeks ago.

I had zip ties around the clamp and that had worked well for a few months. I replaced the zip ties, but that didn't work, so for the past few days I've been toying around with just replacing the axle shaft.

I also have an aftermarket warranty, but figured with the lift, etc. it wouldn't be covered. I had planned on going up to the dealer to cancel the warranty, and then useing the refund to pay for the axle shaft.

Anyway, I got up to the dealer, and they said that it would be covered.

I guess they missed the 285's and the OME's. CV joints were fine, so they replaced both boots on the DS shaft. It wasn't till they were 99% done that another mechanic was checking things out and spotted the rear diff breather extension. Then the OME's must have caught his eye, because I heard him mumble "well this ain't stock"....

They brought the 4R around, and a few of the guys came over to ask about the shocks and the MTR's. I gave them the story, and one of them said he had a pre-runner and wanted to get MTR's for it after seeing mine. I then told them to check out Yotatech!

That's sweet Tom! I bet that kinda scared you when they were all asking about your ride huh?

It surprises me what some dealers will cover under warranty. And with others, it seems like we just get shafted.

Glad it worked out for you. I was wondering where you have been.

Hey Christian,

Yeah when I heard the mechanic mention about it not being stock, I thought they were going to scrap the warranty coverage. I didn't stand there and broadcast the fact that there have been mods done, but at the same time I thought it was pretty obvious. I just figured that the service rep. didn't care about it. And you're right, warranty coverage, especially aftermarket warranties, are completely hit-or-miss.

I was MIA last week...I was in Iowa visiting the in-laws-to-be.

Wow! Very cool, and funny! You could've said it was stock and just got the Rubicon Edition. Sounds like they might not have caught that too quickly either.

Now be sure and delete this post fairly soon, so they don't see this and change their mind should they happen to "visit."

Yeah Steve, I guess we won't need to do that axle swap now after all!

So it sounds like they paid for it, correct? You got lucky.

Well I did have a small deductible, but yes, the rest was covered. Who knows, maybe the service rep did know it was lifted but just didn't bother telling the warranty company (it wasn't a Toyota warranty, but was sold as an option with the vehicle) about it. I figured I was better off not asking questions. Yeah, I was lucky.
