Custom 3.0 intake

I know lots of people have done ISR's and custom short ram intakes on this forum. So that got me thinking, i'm thinking of doing one myself.Plus, pic's of what you people have done would be great; so i can have some ideas.

thanx

You want the whole manifold or just the intake tube pics?

For what its worth the ISR is a complete wast of time performance wise and it makes checking the oil a PITA. Im stuck with mine because I mounted an after market ignition under it.

A picture of just the intake tube is fine. I heard some good things about the ISR. Checking the oil shouldn't be "that" hard, if your checking it all the time.
By looking at the stock intake tube, i know for sure there are lots of restrictions, and bends that makes the car not breathe that well.

What are the pro's and con's to an ISR mod for the 3.0?

I like mine...definately noticed increased throttle response after putting it on, dunno about power but its just one of those seat of your pants feelings. Checking the oil isn't very hard...didn't notice any more difficulty from stock. Its louder too.

I guess if you paint it chrome it could add up to 20hp provided you had a "type R" sticker on it?

In all honesty it dont do squat except make the intake louder and the dipstick harder to reach. If you want a really loud intake put a cone filter on it. I tried a cone filter and once again its nothing but some noise but I guess if thats what your into.

here is my air box mod since I didnt like the other options available.

Again no real benefit but atleast you know its not a restriction.

Maybe it's not an issue with the 3.0, but there's a real difference on the 3.4.

'91 V6-
I haven't noticed much power gain, but it is a little louder, and it has got to be easier to get air without all that crap....

Keep an eye on those radiator hose air tube couplings. I tried the 3" hose couplings and after a few weeks my motor pulled them off. Imoved to hump hoses so that my motor could move and not pull the hose off.

Since it doesn't give a large power gain, it does let the 3.slow can breathe better, right?

Did you weld copper to the steel pipe? And what's with that third line plugged. Someone told me to keep that line for the air conditioner. thanks.

Look at it this way, you are decreasing the initial "gulp volume" which equates to better throttle response at initial tip in.

Installing an aftermarket cone filter will get the best imporvement in overall performance for the dollar and takes very little time and energy. In combonation with the larger intake pipe you will see even more gains but the cone filter really does work. Don't bother with the K&N drop in. It does nothing.
This is a 22re obviously but this is what I mean:

Are there any improvements in mileage after the ISR?

Is intake noise a concern?

I dont know about you guys but when I put my FIPK in I did gain a little bit of top end power and 2mpg if I remember correctly.....

Waiting on my 3" mandrel bent U to get here for my intake... I think I may have to get a 3vze AFM, gut it and put those guts in my 7mge AFM to get it to work properly....yikes!

Yep--the tube and boots are from a 6.0 powerstroke.
