crazy idea for a first gen 4runner

I was flipping through a magazine and saw a few photos of 93 and up supras and 93 and up rx-7's. I saw the twin turbo set up they had and it hit me. Is it possible to convert a 22ret into a 22rett? I've been thinking about it a lot lately and I'm going to do some research and find out if its possible. I was thinking of having a sequential turbo set up like on the FD rx-7, one big and one small for continuous boost. I would use the factory ct-20 for low end boost and add the ct-26 for high end boost. I think it might be possible since there is some good space in the engine bay but a custom manifold would be very costly. What do you guys think?

are you serious? i would have figured you knew more about engines from all your previous posts..... i thought you were knowledgeable about cars....

you should put on a supercharger as well, make it a 22rettype-s ... then add the tornado and be good to go.....

if you were serious, i feel sorry for you... sure you could do it, but why? for less $ you could swap in a 350 chevy and make a lot more stout of a vehicle.... also you going to have to mickey mouse and do r&d to make a manifold capable of both turbos....

There is not enough exhuast pressure to spool two turbos. You would have one very laggy/ bogged down 4runner. Not to mention all the $$$$cash money$$$ you would spend on the turbos and custom manifold. You gotta realize turbos are whole different animal, two turbos does not mean more power. The supra guys with the 2jzgte twin turbo engine when upgrading, usually swap their twin setup for a larger single turbo to yeild the big numbers. If your looking for more power go with a 7mgte, they are great motors. But it's ALOT OF WORK.

Read up, and good luck

Honestly Jim, chill out man. Why is it that every time some one has an idea that you have to rip them a new one? You're a good guy, just lighten up a bit.

this swap has been done by a fair amount of people and for the most part its a very compatible swap with the bellhousings etc...do a few searches here and on pirate and you should find what you are lookin for if you are serious about this.

I wouldn't really be practical, there is a limit to how much that lil motor can take, or give... How about just adding the second turbo as a purely cosmetic installation....

most of those supras and rx7's convert to single to make more power anyway.
spray to get that big turbo to spool up faster.

not really, you were kinda rude to the guy. We aren't bashing you, merely suggesting you lighten up a tad to make this place a bit more relaxed.

maybe i need t ostart using more smilies in my posts... a lof of people instantly flip out and think i am a jerk.... i dont care if they want to think that though... however, if i came off that way it wasn't my intent... i have read red86's other posts about his turbo buildup and must say it looks awesome, however sometimes it jsut seems funny that people that have the knowledge post stuff like so shiuld i get blinekr fluid or whatnot... the supra has a ct-26 could you use that instead of the stock turbo? or would it jsut not produce enough pressure as stated above? i said that a v8 swap would probably be easier and cheaper... and i do agree with the 7mg swap, thats also a swap thats been tried and true....

Wow everyone is acting like I was actually going to attempt to a twinturbo setup, but I guess the way I phrased it made it seem so. It was just an idea that came to me one day. I'm just gonna upgrade from the ct-20 and finish the rest of my truck, then move on to another project car. But I did notice that jimabena74 does like to somewhat bash on other people in the forumns. You told me in another thread that running with no cat is against federal law in California, but honestly who cares about the law. I got pulled over a month ago for some absolute bs and got a fat ticket which I am fighting against. I can't tell you how many times I've seen the law abused and people getting taken advantage of. You know sometimes you just gotta say wtf and take a chance and run with a catless exhaust.

Red,

I feel with you. Sometimes creative individuals just gotta hide themselves from the rest of the world. It seems our geniousness is lost on them.

It's not a matter of will it work, can it work or whatever. Just the fact that we made it work is all we need.

Your thoughts and ideas on it are sound. It would be interesting to try someday, just to say you did it.

Try making a manifold sometime for a big block marine chevy with a Chevette carb on EACH cylinder.

Was it expensive? not really, just time consuming. Was it hair pulling? In more ways than one. This was in a time before internet and digital cameras. I only wish I still had pictures of that work of art.

It may be hair brained to someone else, but to some, it is pure inspiration.

Thats exactly how i feel Farmerj. I was just trying to think out of the box and think of something that no one has tried before. The cost vs. reward ratio is way too high and risky. Its just a crazy idea that no one will attempt. I bet the first person who tried the 7mge swap was told its a stupid idea and it can't be done. It would be cool if someone tried an RB series motor swap. You can do anything you want to a car no matter how crazy and outrageous it is as long as you have the money.
