Ahhhhhhhhhhhh 181

Thanks MT. I was wondering about that. I am still going to go in and make sure that everything is done right. I just want to keep going untill I get the bucks up for another engine. Hell I was going to tell them to just weld the Crank Pulley on. I am glad they saw it my way.
Thanks MT I am off to Hunker down. I will be back with results tomorrow.

Gotta give that chick credit. For one post, she created a very nice, informative, and instructive thread. Too bad she apparently never came back to read it.

Well now I find out today after they get all the work done that the non english speaking mechanic that did the actual work has a Torque Wrench that only goes to 150 lbs. Then I went off on them and asked them what they did to get it to spec. They said we used the impact gun. WHAT!!! I said.
Now I have to do it myself. My check engine light comes on intermittently now. What might that be? I will let you guys and Gal if she ever comes back know of the saga.

Yeah that's the universal sign for "I'm a lazy, half___ed, sorry excuse for a mechanic". I'd drop that shop like a dirty shirt. I found a torque wrench that goes to 250 ft-lbs at Home Depot for about $70.

Pull the code and go from there. That's the nice thing about computers in vehicles now, they can tell you where to look.

Cool Mechanic Shop is now off my list

Driving around today I am still getting the intermittent " Check engine light" It runs good and strong until the light comes on. I asked Jose to tell me what it was. In broken english he said the O2 sensor. I replaced that 5 months ago. I am heading to Sears and then Pep Boys. Find me another Torque wrench and take things into my own.
I am strongly moving towards getting a remanufactured some time in the near future. Know of any reputable shops out here in Los Angeles area?
Oh yah now I have an exhaust leak somewhere. I can tell by the sound. It sounds like a semi tractor (Kenworth) when Slowing down.
I will continue the story later.
Wonder what happened to that poor gal?

I dunno. It's too bad. She created a great thread. I bet she would have been a nice addition to the "Girls of Yota" thread too. Just a hunch.

If the leak is before the O2 sensor that could be what the CEL is. Fix the leak and try that.

I worked at a Toyota dealer for 6 months, and I don't ever recall seeing a torque wrench being used, ever.

Most of them don't, they just use an impact gun (usually gets the bolt to about 250-350 ft-lbs that way). As long as you don't hammer on it too badly (which most pro mechanics know not to do) the bolt will be plenty tight enough to prevent working itself back out. Problem is you don't really know how tight or loose it was when the vehicle goes out the door (you'd only know if it came back with an issue).

Cool Truck Runs Cooler Now

Well with a new shroud and new Fan and new Crank Pulley it does run so much cooler. I tried the Torque wrench and it went to around 225 lbs. per ft. I haven't had time yet to zero in on the Gasket Leak. My guess is that it is before the Cat. Conv. Would that make the engine adjust to sending more fuel into the Piston Chambers? Just wondering since I see smoke (not much) until it's warmed up.
MT Whats a CEL?
Thanks again you guys. I will continue the saga.
