a couple "power" questions

So I just bought a 95 4runner today, and theres a couple things that dont work like they do in the manual.
The first is the antenna.. when I start it up, it makes a noise like it wants to "erect" the antenna, but its already all the way up, and when i shut it off, it makes a similiar noise, and when i push it down while its trying to automatically bring it down, it wont go up to next time I start it. could it be bent or something?

The second is on the tailgate, I have the "power" rear window, and it works when i push the button on the console, but when i try and open it by using the key on the tailgate, it doesnt work, up or down, and I made sure the window lock was off. so am I doing something wrong, or is it shot?

The antenna sounds like the plastic part that turns on a sprocket is broken and needs replaced. It happened on my 93.

I had someone install the part so I don't know how to go about it but thats probably the problem.

My anteanna on my '92 PU doesn't go up and down either. It is a pretty common problem with older power anteanna's. Usually the motors won't go bad so it is just the mast. On the inside of your anteanna is a piece of plastic with teeth on it. The motor is suppose to turn and raise and lower the anteanna with these. But after a few years of constant use (especially if it tries to go up and down when frozen in the winter) the plastic teeth grind off. Replacement masts are pretty cheap but replacing the whole thing is about $150. To replace the mast there is a special tool to take the the nut off the top of your anteanna where it goes into the fender or if you are REALLY carefull you can use a screwdriver. But remember if you slip you just nailed the side of your fender with a screwdriver. Once that is off have someone turn on your radio and start pulling on the mast. It should pull right out of the track it's in. Watch which way the teeth were facing when it came out. Then just feed your new mast in until it won't go anymore. Next have someone turn off the radio and feed the anteanna the rest of the way. Put the nut back on and run it up and down a couple of times to make sure everything works. My anteanna hasn't worked in the four months that I've had my truck but I was at the drive in a few weeks ago and cliped the reciever on to my anteanna. It was a little while until the movie started so I turned my truck off. To my surprise the anteanna went down perfectly. The clip was stetched to the anteanna so it was pulling it to the side about an inch when it was all the way up. Just enough to make the teeth work again.
If your tailgate window goes up and down then you know that the motor still works so it is something between the lock and the motor. I would check all of your fuses and then pull the tailgate open to look at the lock. It could be something as simple as a contact that fell off. Good luck and congrats on your purchase.

The antenna will be about $30 to replace. It was on my 98 anyway.
