I always buy my tires from Costco as there prices are always the best. It always helps when they are having a $60 or $80 off sale.

They have great prices, but they won't mount them unless they are within 3% of what came stock.

That's not that great of a price. I got a quote of ~$850 installed at Discount Tire just 3 weeks ago (not including any specials). I'm sure you can even find better prices than $850, too.

Was that before or after tax? His price before tax is $836, which puts his tax rate about 8.8%. After tax here in SLC, you'd be at $914 at discount tire after tax at 7.5%, if it wasn't already figured in. Also, did that quote include road hazard?

If I remember right about BFGoodrich, they don't have specials, and retailers can't put their tires on sale. I bought some Bridgestones at Costco before, and I thought they were great to work with (2 replacements within 2 years, and I didn't have to pay a dime). I get so tired of tire chains nickel and dime-ing for every little thing, I'll go back to Costco.

edit: Costco won't put the tires on your vehicle if they're not the size on your VIN sticker, but if you take the tires off at home (or in the parking lot), they will mount them on the rims. You will have to put them back on your rig. I never heard the 3% rule before - it would be good to ask them.

Yeah, Costco is a stickler about the correct size rule.

BFG had a special in Sep or Oct for $75 or $100 off of 4 tires. Didn't jump on it in time.

The $850 was with taxes included. It was the Disc. Tire up in Layton, if you want to check. I don't believe road hazard was included, though, which I know that all Costco tires come with. Not saying they're expensive, and I have bought tires from there before, but calling around last time, DT had the best prices. I have a friend at DT, so I even got a better price.

I'm actually pretty shocked that Costco didn't have the better price - my naive perceptions of the warehouse/supermarket/department store/tire shop have been shattered! I think I'm going to be sick.
