Cost effective brakes?
#21
Weight reduction is always an option for us 2wd folks... I just removed 120 lbs of spare tire and skid plate stuff that I haven't used/dented/touched in 5 years. There is a significant difference in stopping ability as well as acceleration and MPG
You 4 wheelers can disregard this post.

I can see how everyone that puts Tundra brakes on their vehicle claims it's such a dramatic difference considering that most had barely functioning stock brakes to begin with...

But the rotor isn't really bigger. It's marginally thicker. The caliper is mechanically the exact same thing. Unless you tow often, there is zero braking advantage to this setup. You don't increase the amount of braking torque, just the heat capacity of the rotor. Definitely not all it's cracked up to be...

You, on the other hand, have brakes that are adequate for your needs and riving style - good for you!

Even after a 4 wheel brake Job on my 99 runner with metallic pads.......I never liked the brakes and how the truck stops.
I always feel that if under the gun.............It might get ugly.
Afte driving mountain passes my brakes heat up and the start to pulsate.
After they cool down ...everything goes back to normal.

I am glad you know that everyone had barely functioning brakes! Don't you think that many who UPGRADED actually know a bit about their vehicles ... and brakes? Many of us maintain the hell out of our vehicles!

I know there's at least 2-3 threads that are 4 pages+ dealing with this topic. Go and read through them; you'll surely find that there are quite a few people that had marginal stock brakes and then decided to install the Tundra rotors and new calipers. Can't really make a fair comparison that way, can you?

The stock brakepads are just to hard a compound, good for people who just drive on the road casually-bad for spiritied and offroad drivers.
My camry had the same pads and stock rotors, the rotors warped after a wheel bearing went and I couldnt afford to fix it asap. Turned the rotors and instaleld performance pads and voila it stopped better than before I had warped rotors.
All you need is better rotors and pads, I upgraded to brembo rotors and hawk LTS pads for my T100 and it stops on a dime.
