Ok, I removed the coolant drain plug from my truck to help it drain while I was replacing hoses in the system. the problem is that it was difficult to get out and won't go back in beyond a few turns, it seems the treads are screwed up. my problem is that neither the plug nor the hole are a standard size. So I cant go out and simply buy a tap to clean out the hole in the engine block, or get the plug at a standard auto parts store. the plug is very similar in size to a 3/8 npt pipe tap, however those are 18 pitch and the plug is 19 pitch, it is not metric. I am going to try to use a rubber expansion plug short term but would like to have the proper drain plug. I dont know how long the rubber will last. I know I can order the plug in at the local dealership, but I need to get a hold of a tap to clean out the hole. does anyone have a suggestion? I would appreciate any help.

Maybe swing by a local radiator shop, and see if they can help you, maybe with free parts they have laying around.

 

I believe I failed to mention that this hole is in the engine block, not the radiator, however they may be able to help, I had not thought of them, thank you. I will give them a try on Monday

You might have some crud in there gumming up the works. Look in there and see why it won't go in. You may need a flexable bore scope to get the view you need.

I'd bet that it is a standard, metric thread size. I doubt toyota would create a wierd tap and die just for that drain plug. Gadget's idea sounds good.
