converting 5 speed to auto

How hard would it be to convert for 5 speed to auto on a 2000 2.7 4x4? Anyone done it in any order? auto to 5 speed? I hate shifting, got too old and dont like it anymore.

Not nearly or as easy or as cheap as selling your 4runner and buying an automatic.

+1

Manuals are harder to come by so I would say sell it and get another unless you just have to keep yours or you have tons of mods.

I just got a great deal on it. I thought I could live with the 5 speed. 90% of time I can. Its the other 10% that pisses me off...........

what is the 10% pissing you off (it might go way with time or maybe you will continually wish you sold it)

Yeah. Usually it's people trying to sell their auto to find a manual. I looked though so many 4runners before I found a manual.

If you got a good deal on it you could sell it and make money and buy an auto runner. If mine was an auto I'd trade ya.

I have to pick up my daughter and drop her off every morning. And it takes
30 - 40 minutes in line. Pop in and out of gear stuff aint fun. I dont have a 4runner its a Tacoma now.
Here is a pic of it. I may sell it and buy a auto.

Put her bike in the back and when you get to that point tell her to get it out.

Damn, if it was a 4Runner and you were close, I would have totally considered trading you.

Like they said, it'll probably be a lot easier selling it and finding an auto.

Its doable... seems like a few people have gone from auto to manual, seems like if you can find someone on here or TTORA, you might be able to do a direct swap. Who knows.

Going from auto to manual is easy as just swapping the trannys.

Going from manual to auto on the other hand, is a lot harder since the auto tranny computer is built into the ECU and your 5-speed ECU doesn't have it. You would also have to swap your entire engine wiring harness as the 5-speed harness doesn't have the right plugs for the auto tranny. Then you have to get a different radiator since auto tranny rigs have the tranny cooler built into the radiator, or you could just run a auxiliary cooler. All of that along with modifying the floor to get the auto tranny shifter to bolt in. Hmmm, I think that's about it.

I've done a auto to 5-speed swap in a double cab taco, and know the amount of work involved, believe me, its ALOT.

Unless you got the rig for darn near free, it will be way more cost effective to just sell it and get a auto tranny rig.

Hope this helps some.
