Question Companion Flange Question

2000 2.7 Prerunner

I installed a new driveshaft and I had to rotate the driveshaft a couple times to get rid of vibration.I stripped the flange stud on one of the bolts and I need to replace it.Can I just press out the old one and use a bolt to replace it? If I do,could it throw the balance off? If I get a new flange, what are the steps in installing it as far as alignment? It would be new so I cant mark the relationship.I appreciate any help. This is for the transmission companion flange for a double u joint shaft(cardan joint)Thank you.

I ended up using four grade ten bolts I got at the parts store. I went to NAPA and they told me it's a dealer item because of the grooved bolt.I went to the dealer and they only sell the complete flange so I went to a parts store down the street and they had some grade 10.9 bolts that were a little smaller and they seem to be good to go.

Just keep an eye on the bolts !!

Every time I used other then the factory set up things came loose !!

The first time all four bolts worked loose and the drive shaft fell out taking out the fuel tank good thing gas is not as flammable as it used to be in my youth.

That's what loctite is for.

I've been using 7/16" grade 8 bolts on one of my t-case companion flanges for years without any issues. I used blue loctite the first time I tightened them. But I've tightened them countless times since without it. Never had one come loose yet. And I'm only using a pair of wrenches to tighten them. I have no idea how many ft.lbs.. I do know I quit worrying about them coming loose a long long time ago.

If one ever does fall out...I'll blame it on the fact that they aren't fine thread bolts(couldn't get them quickly at the time). And I'll be sure to not do that anymore(7/16" grade 8 fine thread are readily available to me now). Until then...if it ain't broke...I ain't fixin' it!

BTW, no metric because M11 is impossible to find. And M12 is too big. I managed to bend the stock M11s. Which is why I went 7/16"(11.1125mm).
